From aimai:

George Bush’s Penile Implant to go on Display

What the fuck is up with the GOP tough guys these days? Wasn’t the GOP the hard-as-nails Party of Dad, whereas the Dems were the sensitive ponytail wearers, always worried about feelings and emotion, etc.? That’s the stereotype the GOP has worked to perpetuate for my entire lifetime. And now they bust out with this shit:

GOP Rep. King: ‘Bored’ Napolitano needs to show ‘emotion’

In the wake of the attempted bombing of a plane bound for Detroit, Rep. Peter King (NY-R) criticized Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano for appearing “bored.”

“What I was critical of here was that first of all we went almost 48 hours before anyone from the administration came out and even spoke about what happened,” explained King Monday.

“Finally, Janet Napolitano comes out and the first thing she said was everything worked well. And she seemed almost like she was bored to be there. There was no intensity. There was no show of emotion,” he said.

King was not the only Republican to attack Napolitano’s tone. Former George W. Bush spokesperson Dana Perino told Fox News Monday that Napolitano “missed the mark” with her tone and needs to “turn up the urgency just a tad.

I guess Obama could have flown around the country in panicky circles like Bush famously did on 9/11, even though the undie-bomber was safely chained to a gurney in the burn unit by the time the story broke. I blame Glenn Beck, whose weepy broadcasts have apparently caused wingnuts to become addicted to tears and hysteria. Way to wreck the party brand, Emo Girly Man.

Beyond pots and kettles

I didn’t see Janet Napolitano on the yapping head shows yesterday, so I have no idea whether or not her “the system worked” comment [re: the undie-bomber situation] is worthy of the level of wingnut ire it provoked. Regardless, this is a bit too much to bear and almost approaches “crime against nature” status:

Jonah Goldberg should never, ever call another person a hack—no matter what the person he is criticizing has done. He must refrain from using the word “hack” to describe another person for the same reason Amy Winehouse should never, ever call another woman an emaciated, drunken crack-head who wears too much eyeliner.

The Glorious Alliance of Teabaggers and Heroic Laborers…Or Not

It looks like Ms. Hamsher of FDL was right about the teabaggers: They are rising up to throw off the chains of the corporate oppressors! Here they are organizing a “National Day of Strike” and sounding for all the world like a modern-day version of the Leninist Ladies Auxiliary:

The National Day of Strike has received tremendous response in the first four days of our existence thanks to the hard work of all of you helping to spread the word. We already have nearly 3,000 people signed up on the facebook page and this website with 2,000 more on twitter. We have received commitments of support from the national movement as well. January 20, 2010 will be the day the TEA Party movement moves into the next phase, TEA 2.0, of taking our country back and you are a vital part of that. I am honored to stand with you.

60 Minutes—“Birdmen”

This is some of the craziest shit I’ve seen in my life (that isn’t currently occurring in FDL’s comments)...

Countdown to War on Yemen - Lieberdouche Doesn’t Disappoint!

via HuffPo

Sen. Joseph Lieberman, (I-Conn) a renowned hawk and one of the foremost champions of the invasion of Iraq, warned on Sunday that the United States faced “danger” unless it pre-emptively acts to curb the rise of terrorism in Yemen.

“Somebody in our government said to me in Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, Iraq was yesterday’s war. Afghanistan is today’s war. If we don’t act preemptively, Yemen will be tomorrow’s war,” Lieberman said, during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday”. “That’s the danger we face.”

Just waitin’ for McCain to check in on Yemen now.

Who’s your daddy?

Unless you’re Sasha or Malia, he’s not Barack Obama. So don’t expect the president to read you a bed time story and tuck you in with a glass of warm milk:

America lucked out this holiday season. It’s as simple as that. Something terrible could have happened and It was the bravery of passengers, and the ineptitude of a would-be terrorist, that prevented it…

And if you’re like me - that scared the crap out of you. You probably wanted assurances. What will be done to prevent this? How are we reacting?

…When the nation is attacked, I expect to be informed and hopefully calmed by the President of the United States.

So a deranged fool sets his undies ablaze aboard an airliner on Christmas, causing understandable panic among his fellow passengers but no real damage aside from possibly blistering his own wee-wee. And for this Obama is supposed to cancel his tee time? Grow the fuck up already.

Personal Foul—Roughing the Pontiff—15 Yards and a Mandatory Psych Eval

A “mentally unstable” woman jumped the ropes at St. Peter’s Basilica and dragged the 82-year-old Pope Benedict to the floor at tonight’s Christmas Mass. He was reported to be unhurt, and proceeded with the ceremony.

Cell-phone footage of the attack is here, and it’s pretty shocking.

According to the Prophecies of St. Malachy, there’s only one more Pope after Benedict. Obviously, some people are way too anxious to find out if Malachy was right…and the CBS report raises so many doubts about Benedict’s health you’d think they’ve already started an office pool.

I’m no fan of this Pope or Popes in general, but I really wish that Teh Crazy would stay home and chill at least one night a year. The whole world needs to grab a juice box and a Fruit Roll-Up, and take a time-out on the nap mat. This handbasket is going to Hell plenty fast already.

The Great Successes of Progressive Hero Grover Norquist: The Ronald Reagan Circle in Tarnow, Poland

Everyone knows that progressive soulmate Grover Norquist likes to drown fucking everything in bathtubs (the government, starving African infants, puppies, Arlen Specter, etc.) and that he’s the founder of the tumorous Americans for Tax Reform, but many people don’t know or have forgotten that he was also the founder and president of the wildly successful Ronald Reagan Legacy Project. The goal of the organization was to get a bust of the Gipper soldered onto every American’s shoulder (yours is shiny!) and eventually replace Mount Rushmore with one gigantic Reagan head. The project was so successful that it became too big for the internet and its web site had to be removed to keep many electrical circuit-kinda things and various tube-shaped portals from imploding. Fortunately, the Ronald Reagan Legacy Project’s web site has been archived here and all netroots progressives can take solace in the fact that we have the man responsible for the majestic Ronald Reagan Circle in Tarnow, Poland working with us to take down the miniature cussing Chicago Jew monster!

Behold the awesome power of the Grover! Emanuel is in for a world of hurt! Honk honk!

Merry Whatever

Whatever you celebrate at this time of year, may it be all you wish it to be.

Barring instant global warming, it looks like we’ll have a bit of snow on the ground here to add to the enjoyment/horror. The above’s a shot from just up the hill from YAFB Towers about ten minutes ago, looking down the River Clyde towards Arran.

If you’ve any seasonal shots of your own you want to share, link them in the comments and I or one of my co-bloggers’ll add them to this post.

Have fun, take care, and be good.

[Updated below the fold]
