Heh, no.  Just reacting to some, ahem, “commentary” I saw yesterday from men regarding Samantha Geimer.

Female Roasters also have my permission to punch Kevin’s man bits if I ever say anything like that.

You got it, pal. But really, I would extend a hearty STFU to anyone—man or woman—who questions how Geimer handles her own situation. She survived it as best she could, and that’s good enough for me. Doesn’t mean I have to agree with her. Doesn’t mean the justice system has to be built around her reaction. But she damn sure gets to survive it in the way that works best for her.

PS: I haven’t seen the commentary around this (I’m in high production mode), but I can imagine it. And I’m glad I missed it.

I don’t know how it is I’m able to hold all of these thoughts in my head without it exploding, and I’m avoiding most links on this topic, but here’s my takeaway, fwiw.

1) Roman Polanski is a brilliant director (for Chinatown alone, if nothing else).

2) Roman Polanski has also endured more horrendous personal loss than most of us can imagine.

3) Roman Polanski also drugged and raped an underage girl who said “no” repeatedly, and for that he deserved a prison sentence.

4) Roman Polanski may or may not have been on the verge of getting a raw deal from the (now-deceased) judge in the case. However, that doesn’t let him off the hook for running away from justice for drugging and raping a child.

5) Being forced to live in France in freedom to pursue your artistic and family life really doesn’t constitute suffering on a par with being imprisoned for drugging and raping a child.

6) Samantha Geimer’s wishes vis a vis Polanski aren’t irrelevant—however, there is a reason that accused people are tried by the STATE, not the victim. It’s still the decision of the state to finish this business with him, regardless of what Geimer’s personal preferences may or may not be.

7) That said, people should leave Samantha Geimer the fuck alone. SHE didn’t put herself in this situation, and she didn’t put Polanski in this predicament. He did that to himself, and no amount of brilliance or personal loss disguises that fact.

By the way, the numbering above in NO WAY reflects the order in which I think these things should be considered. My point is that I can still admire the artistry of Polanski’s work, I can still feel sympathy for him as someone who lost his mother, wife, and unborn child to vicious insane killers, AND I can still think that he needs to be brought to some form of real justice for his acts. I’m not comfortable with saying “Well, he’s a great director and it’s been over 30 years so what the hey?”

And anyone blaming Samantha Geimer for the fact that her MOTHER chose to leave her with Polanski can eat a bowl of shit sprinkled with broken glass right the fuck now.

I would suggest that the Ladies of RumpRoast smack Kevin around for just being Kevin. That’s surely enough of an indictment.

And for further clarification, just in case any blogstalkers are backcombing for evidence of our wimmen-lynching ways, I only mention the fact that Geimer testified that she said “no” repeatedly because there are a few heinous types suggesting it was “consensual.” Now, the notion that sex between a 13-year-old and a 44-year-old is ever “consensual” is nonsense and disgusting. But EVEN if she hadn’t been drugged, EVEN if she had been of age, she said no and it would STILL be rape. Jeez.
