An Open Letter from Lt. Daniel Choi to Obama and Every Congressperson

From CNN:

The Department of the Army sent a letter discharging me on April 23rd. I will not lie to you; the letter is a slap in the face. It is a slap in the face to me. It is a slap in the face to my soldiers, peers and leaders who have demonstrated that an infantry unit can be professional enough to accept diversity, to accept capable leaders, to accept skilled soldiers.

My subordinates know I’m gay. They don’t care. They are professional.

Read it all.

I guaran-fucking-tee you that this kool-aid drinkin’ Obot will tear the Messiah to pieces if he doesn’t do the right thing with Lt. Choi. This is wrong on so many different levels. [hat tip Ripley]

MORE: Via Allan, you can contact the White House about this here. I strongly encourage everyone to do so.

And I’ll be right there with you rippin’ Obama a new one if he allows this to stand. It is past time for this foolish, bigoted, counterproductive, wasteful policy to end.

Yup, this is a big one for me as well. And given how rampant sexual abuse of female soldiers has become, seems to me that it’s the hetero men who present the gravest threat to morale and good order.

Contact the White House and your congressional representatives.  Let them know that the time for foot-dragging on this issue is over.

Obama can issue an executive order halting the futher pursuit of suspected DADT violations pending legislation to make it go away entirely.

Tell him you know he has the power and you expect him to exercise it today.

Thanks Allan.  I just did it.

Done and done, Allan.

Wow, just wow…stuff is comin’ together.

Done, Allen, and thank you for the link.

Called and emailed.

I served for 10 years. Nobody gave a rats ass about who was gay or not. This cannot stand.

Justlen, I remember Barry Goldwater being interviewed on Leno or something right after DADT came out (no pun intended). He said the same thing—I’m paraphrasing of course, but I remember him saying something like “There have always been gays in the military, I served with men who were gay and they were good soldiers, and I think anyone who otherwise meets the qualifications to be in the armed services and is willing to make that sacrifice should be allowed to do it.”

I mean—BARRY FREAKING GOLDWATER got it.

Thanks, everyone, for your support.

You can also join the organization Knights Out, for which Lt. Dan is the spokesperson, as an “ally.”  They are a group of out graduates of the military service academies.

He was carefully selected to be the public face of the campaign to repeal DADT.

They also have started a Facebook group to get out the word here.

Good for Goldwater. And don’t the same people who spend 50% of their time getting all hysterical over gays in the military spend the rest of their day slobbering over the famously fierce and effective Israeli Defense Force? You know, the military force that has allowed gays to serve openly for years?

You know, the military force that has allowed gays to serve openly for years?

And women.

And women.

Yeah, I especially love that part. Did you know women make better fighter pilots? They can pull more G’s.

These policies hurt more than they help. I can give you a specific example. The training I got in the Navy is the second most expensive program next to flight school, and has a 70% washout rate. Women were allowed to get this training, but because women couldn’t serve on submarines they only got shore assignments. Consequently since they filled all the shore assignments my sea/shore rotation was 5/2. Considering the boats averaged about 300 days a year underway I couldn’t stomach a third sea tour and got out. Lose/lose proposition.

I’m so old, I remember when lefties weren’t falling all over themselves to find reasons to have more people serve in the military.

I’m not even gay, but I’d gladly serve as a bottom in a gay porn video if it meant I didn’t have to help make the world safe for American imperialism.

I’m not even gay, but I’d gladly serve as a bottom in a gay porn video if it meant I didn’t have to help make the world safe for American imperialism.

I’m with you.

I think anybody stupid enough to get their ass blown off for a handful of rich banking interests should have every right do just that. To have it any other way is downright un-Darwin.

There has been no legitimate threat to the overall security of the United States since I was born in the fifties.

No sooner asked than done. Now I’m in an important issue writing fervor. Think I’ll go chew on Harry Reid for a bit.

You made a valid argument, but you lost me with this:

I’m not even gay, but I’d gladly serve as a bottom in a gay porn video if it meant I didn’t have to help make the world safe for American imperialism.

I guess you’re so old you don’t remember that equating gay rights with gay porn isn’t exactly kosher.

Thanks for posting this Kevin. Folks, after you’ve sent the Prez. and your congresscritters e-mails, send postcard. (Not a letter, letters to congress and any federal agency have to go through the cootie zapper). Point out that DADT makes us more like Iran and North Korea and less like Great Britain and Israel. (This will fuck with the fReichtard’s heads.) If you can, hit their office in D.C. and their state office[s]. I know this is a bit of a hassle but it makes an impression.

Not sure how that comes across as me “equating” gay rights with gay porn. I just meant that if a draft board needed evidence of my gayness, I’d be happy to show them a video if that’s what it took.

I wish I had a date for this quote, but Barry Freaking Goldwater summed it up best with this:

You don’t have to be straight to be in the military; you just have to be able to shoot straight.
