Another CPAC “separated at birth” discovery

Yesterday Ann Coulter and ET. Now Pam “Atlas Shrugs” Geller and Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Famer Alice Cooper:

Geller’s mascara was in disarray because she and her fellow conference-goers had just screened a 9/11 propaganda film trailer.

Here’s a description of the proceedings:

Geller’s event was held to screen a preview of the film “The Ground Zero Mosque: The Second Wave of The 9/11 Attacks.” She warned the audience about disturbing images in the film, which was previewed before a nearly full overflow room to a crowd snacking on soft pretzels and tortilla chips on Friday. The full film was shown at another unofficial CPAC event on Saturday.

“It’s very graphic,” Geller said before screening 10 minutes of the movie, which opens with footage of bodies falling from the World Trade Center. “I told the 9/11 family members, I suggested they leave. And I wasn’t doing it to be provocative, it was a very difficult film to make, it’s a difficult film to watch. But these are images you haven’t seen, 9/11 has been white washed.”

[snip]

The lights went down and the film began. “That was the sound of someone falling. Someone dying. It was raining bodies,” a narrator says.

How nice that they had soft pretzels and tortilla chips to graze upon as they wanked off to national disaster porn. Because make no mistake about it: That’s what they were doing.

They’ve been doing it for nearly 10 years now—humping away at 9/11 like horny little Chihuahuas on some unfortunate person’s ankle. It’s disgusting. It’s disrespectful.

And people continue to die, not just on patriot-themed snuff films for the viewing pleasure of pretzel-munching wingnuts—people continue to die today in the wars started and supported by these 9/11-humpers, who have achieved a body count that far surpasses al Qaeda’s wildest dreams, in part so Geller and her ilk can live out the Randian fantasy quoted at Geller’s site:

Let them come to New York, stand on the shore of the Hudson, look and kneel. When I see the city from my window - no, I don’t feel how small I am - but I feel that if a war came to threaten this, I would throw myself into space, over the city, and protect these buildings with my body.

Only, Geller asks other people’s children to travel thousands of miles away to die for a lie. And if the American blood spilled in the process comes from a soldier who happened to be Muslim, Geller has no compunction about slagging the resulting Gold Star mom

God, what a despicable creature.

Finally, some brave soul has stepped up to the plate and tried to surpass the example the Republicans set with the 9/11 horror-porn video they screened at their 2008 convention (which they conned the networks into broadcasting by promoting it as a “tribute”—and which was so depraved that Keith Olbermann was compelled to apologize to the MSNBC viewership after it aired. He later succinctly described the video as “sociological pornography; a virtual snuff film”).

I’d ask if there are any depths to which right-wingers won’t sink, but I think Pammy has already answered that question quite well.

Alternate title: A Passion Play for the 21st Century

Start throwing, Pammy, you disgusting piece of shit.

It’s an appropriate comparison, since Cooper has been a right winger since way back.

They’ve been doing it for nearly 10 years now—humping away at 9/11 like horny little Chihuahuas on some unfortunate person’s ankle. It’s disgusting. It’s disrespectful.

Amen!  Preach!

And if you’re nominated for a Moore Award for this, I think you should campaign for it, just like TBogg.  I’ll help.

Why did you make me click on that link? Its horrific.  As well as being…well…funny. Its like they take the concept of biblical literalism and apply it to the Quran and to a billion Muslim believers.  The slashing conclusion to a lecture on the concept of “Taquiya” or to use the Mormon expression “lying for the lord” is “And Muhammed is an excellent example for Muslims!”  He said it/I believe it/case closed.

But this kind of rigidity and literalism isn’t Muslim, anymore than it is characteristic of all Christian sects. And for damned sure its not typical of Torah commentary.  Reading the linked piece about how Muslims have to lie about Islam (and everything else) because some Shia in the 13th century felt constrained to lie about their religious identity because they were being slaughtered for it reminds me of the fact that we Jews have an entire prayer that we pray for forgiveness for breaking vows *because it was so common for Jews to be forced to recant their religion on pain of death.*  How would pammy feel if that were thrown up in her face as a sign that Jews are so untrustworthy that they had to make a special prayer to absolve themselves of their habitual lies?

Seven months ‘til Wingnut Chrismas, the Decading” (TM)

Bog deliver us.

Never mind that it is irrelevant, I predict that Geller and her ilk will make much of the following:

On Friday February 11, the day Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a 60 MINUTES story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.

In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering.

Yep, our Islamophobic loons and propagandists will have lots of fun with this one

A couple evenings ago, I listened to a BBC World report that ending with the correspondent and her driver beating a hasty retreat from some rural Egyptian venue, after the locals started beating on the car. Outside of the well educated middle and upper classes - the majority of Egyptians on Twitter, Facebook, and the like - sizable portions of the impoverished Egyptian populace have bought into media charges that the revolution was instigated by foreigners (including foreign reporters).

There’s gonna be some bad with the good during this post-Mubarak era.

Aaaand, I wonder if otherwise tough & clear-eyed journalist Nir Rosen will lose his association with NYU over this tweet.  Even his closest allies are hammering him (and deservedly so, IMHO).

Meepmeep, that link doesn’t exist, what did Rosen say?  I’m not finding much through google that I haven’t heard from him before.

The link worked for me, JasonM, and here’s what it said:

lara logan had to outdo anderson. where was her buddy mccrystal?

Despicable. I’m glad his allies are hammering him and agree with Meepmeep that he deserves it.

Despicable. I’m glad his allies are hammering him and agree with Meepmeep that he deserves it.

Thanks Betty.
Yep, that’s indefensible and stupid.

Yeah, I don’t know if Nir Rosen was a misogynist asshole originally, or became one after having personally seen all the death & destruction wreaked by our lovingly delivered Freedom Ordance™, but so far he is unapologetic; in fact, pretty much doubling down.

Major Afgan commenter Joshua Foust (locked Twitter account; blog site) recommended everyone unfollow him.

The only good point Rosen has made so far - assuming it is true - is that there was a lot of violence and sexual assault in the crowd at Tahrir Square.  In which case, that should have been reported along with the accounts of euphoric celebration.*

*...It looks like Rosen is deleting tweets; I just went back to check my facts on that last paragraph, and can’t find the relevant tweet, or the original nasty one that started it all.

It’s always fascinating when people in holes won’t stop digging. This is the latest Rosen tweet I saw (just now):

jesus christ, at a moment when she is going to become a martyr and glorified we should at least remember her role as a major war monger

Justification FAIL.

Aw, I’m feeling a little sorry for poor Alice, shown as a Geller look-alike.  He’s just a silly old rocker, not a drunken, haggard, malicious skank.

My two cents on l’affaires Rosen et Jay Newton Small (TIME blogger who mocked Anderson Cooper for getting roughed up):

@jnsmall & @nirrosen launch new video game Grand Theft: Common Decency. Points scored by beating/raping journalists from comfort of home.

Nice, Allan.  That’s just disgusting behavior by the twitters.

To clarify my last comment, disgusting behavior by Rosen and Small.  So easy to be keyboard commandos.

Well, Geller will probably make something of the Lara Logan assault, but the generally despicable Debbie Schlussel may have beat her to the punch (I can’t be bothered to verify by checking time lines and whatnot).

BTW, some Egyptians are responding to the story, quite properly noting that it was Egyptian women and soldiers - most likely themselves “Muslim savages” - who pulled Logan away from the mob of assholes who were assaulting her. Egyptian expat and current U.S. resident Mona Eltahawy has been particularly vigorous in this discussion.

Also too, in the Salon post linked above, there is mention of another presumably respected journalist who - to my mind at least - comes off worse than Nir Rosen.  She’s a she, to boot. I don’t know what kind of dynamic is going on there.

Best wishes to Lara Logan in making a full recovery in body, mind, and spirit. She no more “deserved” this than any one else does - EVER - despite her past sins against honorable journalism, a sin correctly noted by Rosen long, long before he proceeded to go full asshole today. [FWIW, even a shill for the Empire might still be able to come out with a good story, every now-and-again.]

So Alice Cooper finally decapitated Coulter?

Honestly, I went with snark because pondering the black depths of the souls of people who could try to make political hay out of a woman being assaulted makes me all stabby and shit.

Rosen came to his senses and apologized. Good man.

Better yet, he resigned.

And here’s a post-self-destruction interview.
