AP Reports Mass Resignation of Newt’s Senior Campaign Staff

All there is so far:

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Newt Gingrich’s campaign manager and numerous other key aides have resigned together, a strong blow to his hopes for the Republican presidential nomination.

Gingrich press spokesman Rick Tyler told The Associated Press that he’s resigned along with campaign manager Rob Johnson, senior strategists and aides in key early primary states.

Steve Benen has more.

[UPDATE:] Newt vows to soldier on!

I’m sure there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for this that does not reflect poorly on Gingrich AT ALL.

I think there are times when you just have to recalibrate your staff resources, and retool your team to more effectively address a changing electoral landscape, for best quality at the least cost, every day, the first time.

LIBRULS.

Damn, even Fred Thompson is laughing at him.

And I’m sure the folks over at C4P just busted a nut (again).

Well that implosion didn’t take long, did it?  Whoulda thunk it.

Gingrich probly Tweeted a pic of his asshole.

That leaves the field clear for Mittens!

Oh, wait.

Tough shit for Newt and Mitt. We want Sarah.

We want Sarah.

Ummm ...

In a posting to his Facebook page, the former House speaker says he will run the “substantive, solutions-oriented campaign” that he set out to run earlier this spring.

Yeah, ask Gary Hart how that went.

Herman Cain’s path to the White House gets clearly every day.

And clearer, too.

Looks like Gingrich’s campaign has been [removes sunglasses, stares down at corpse]... Newtered.

Army of 1.

And he’s the smart one.

Looks like Gingrich’s campaign has been [removes sunglasses, stares down at corpse]... Newtered.

David Caruso reference FTW!

Putting this whole thing together with the Newtster boasting about the brilliance of his campaign (“Gingrich boasted that presidential campaigns as extraordinary as his are only seen ‘once or twice in a century,’ and the brilliance of his campaign strategy would only be apparent in time.”), then taking off on vacation three weeks in after having to subjugate himself before Paul Ryan for daring to diss Ryan’s Medicare *plan* and the revelations of the mortgage sized revolving credit account at Tiffany’s, and now this, could result in a brilliant farce.  Unfortunately people would dismiss it as much too unlikely even for fiction.

Prof. Berube, did you say that Cain is clearer?

Well, I meant to say that Cain is clearsome, or perhaps clearalicious, but I made a typo.  I hope that’s all clearicated now.

@ Prof. Bérubé: thank goodness you refudiated that! Cleartastic!

(just trying to make repair-ations.  ;^})
