Friday Night Chillout Zone: Awesome Northern Lights Timelapse Video

In The Land Of The Northern Lights from Ole Christian Salomonsen on Vimeo.

I’ve seen the northern lights quite a few times, even here around Glasgow—mainly 10-15 years ago, when sunspot activity was at a peak. It’s that time in the cycle again, but finding the right combination of a clear sky when there’s no moon above the horizon is a tall order.

Never mind, because a very dedicated dude called Ole Christian Salomonsen spent months photographing them, and stitched the pics into a video animation. (YMMV on the music, but you can always turn it off or play something else over it.)

Our planet is brilliant is it not?  It still amazes me even after all these years.

Very, very cool.  Our cabin in the Rockies is at 8,300 feet so sometimes on a clear night we see the lights from either side (north and south).  Not this clear - just the tops of the flashes but pretty amazing nonetheless.

All we get down here are angry clouds of blood-sucking mosquitoes.

Great video and great music :-)
