Stephen Malkmus’ “Baby C’mon” music video

I’m posting this stop-animation classic from the former leader of Pavement because a) it’s one of my favorite music videos of all time (and thoroughly underrated), b) I just uploaded it to YouTube because the version they had up there was really crappy and c) the song, which can be found on Malkmus’ third solo album Face the Truth,  actually contains the lyrics “If you give it to me Timmy/I’m out here on a limb-y” and I think that just flat-out fucking rocks.  Enjoy

MORE: If you want to link to any underrated music videos in the comments, be my guest. Most music video tend to be either tepid or wretched, so it’s nice to discover a decent one every now and then.

Thanks for posting this.  I never saw this video before.  When Face the Truth came out I listened to it non stop in the car for weeks but my son, who was 4 at the time, found this song disturbing and always asked me to turn it off.  He loved a lot of the other songs though.  So much so that one of his pre-K teachers asked me one day what a loud cloud crowd was.  Apparently he was walking around singing that one to himself all the time.  Proudest day of my life to that point.  Fuck that Raffi bullshit, I don’t care whether he becomes President, an astronaut, Major Leaguer, teacher, carpenter, whatever the fuck makes him happy will be fine by me.  As long as he’s not a Republican but is an insufferable music snob like his dear old dad I’ll be proud.

Yeah, I liked this album a lot, too, along with his debut.  Last year’s Real Emotional Trash wasn’t bad either.  The only one I wasn’t crazy about was Pig Lib. I’m still madly in love with all of the early Pavement stuff up to and including Wowee Zowee. If I ever had the energy to put together a top ten list of all-time, Slanted would probably be in there somewhere.

Music for One Apartment and Six Drummers

The adagio is nice, but you won’t be able to stop humming the squeaktoy vivante.
