Bachmann’s Tea Party Caucus Puts Repub Congresspeeps on the Hot Spot

Up to now many Republican politicians have been more than happy to straddle the fence on the Tea Party issue, happily letting the baggers gin up the base while not committing to the cause for fear of alienating the more mainstream voters.

But Michele Bachmann, by establishing an official Tea Party caucus and inviting everyone to join, just drew a line in the sand.  Mike Pence from Indiana and NRCC Chair Pete Sessions from Texas are in.  John Boehner has said “no” citing the fact that he doesn’t join any caucuses.  Eric Cantor is reportedly on the fence.

Curiously Bachmann seems to think Nancy Pelosi might be interested in joining as she says in her clueless wide-eyed way in this video.

If you have a Republican rep in your district, do you think they would want to join?  I think that’s a good question to put to them.

The usual suspects via the WSJ:

“Nearly a dozen lawmakers have already signed up. So who are the founding fathers of the Tea Party Caucus? Much like the nation’s founding fathers, they’re white and male.

Three members of the Republican leadership have joined, including House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence of Indiana, House Republican Conference Secretary John Carter of Texas, and National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Pete Sessions of Texas.

Fellow Texas GOP Reps. John Culberson and Louie Gohmert have signed up, as well as gubernatorial candidate Rep. Pete Hoekstra of Michigan and Senate candidate Rep. Todd Tiahrt of Kansas.

Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King, like Bachmann a favorite among the tea party crowd, has signed up, as well as Rep. Dan Burton of Indiana, Rep. Paul Broun of Georgia, and Rep. Cliff Stearns of Florida.”

This is a wonderful idea. Anything that divides the Republican Party and/or forces the Country Club GOPers to compound Obstructionism with Crazy Talk is a gift to the Dems going into November.

What are the chances we’ll see “Pelosi hates the Tea Party” ads since Madam Speaker refuses to join this august body?  That’s not to say we wouldn’t see those ads anyway.

Congrats Teabagging CongressCreeps! You now proud own of all the TB shit including the nasty slap fight between various factions. And more importantly, it owns you.

Good luck!

Oh look, the first presser is tomorrow.

This woman truly is the gift that keeps on giving. (Not to be confused with fellow Teabagger, the Grift who keeps on grifting.)
