Back From Big Sky

image
This is what the sky looks like in Montana. As you can see, it is big.

Got back from visiting relatives in Montana late Sunday night and I’m still trying to get back into blogging mode.  I was blissfully disconnected from the innertubes and politics for five days and it done me good.  I had massive piles of smoked meats from my in-laws’ gorgeous bbq restaurant shoved under my chin, chased bunny rabbits with my lovely niece Lily, and woke up to this view every morning. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. I was seriously two ticks away from pulling a Hilton the day before I left, so the timing couldn’t have been better.  If I had to witness the demonization of Caroline Kennedy by the leftosphere or the faux-outrage over Corrugate in real-time I think my head would have exploded.  Thanks to Betty, poputonian, marindenver and Noah for keeping things hopping during my absence. They, quite clearly, rock.

I’ll be back in a bit with a post about some of the womyn-powered wingnuts and flawless PUMA puritans who are really, really angry at that despicable Jon Favreau for having the audacity to grope Hillary’s cardboard armpit.  Yep, it’s great to be back.

Damn, those are some great pictures.

And speaking of PUMAs and the demonization of Caroline Kennedy, Will Bower and other PUMAs are ripe for the mocking in this Facebook forum set up to discuss Hillary’s replacement.  I hope it doesn’t make anyone’s head explode but some of the PUMAs do seem to have steam coming out of their ears over the possibility of someone who didn’t campaign for Hillary taking her seat.  I don’t think she’s the right person for the job and I doubt Paterson is even considering her but still, what a bunch of fucking morans.

Shut up, yeah, I don’t think she’s the best person either, but she’s far from the worst. Regardless, it’s silly to get all neck-veiny over one of many names that was floated. I think I read about that forum on Sadly, No! yesterday. I’ll have to click through and check it out. Hopefully, a few of them are proposing that Harriet Christian gets the nod.

Oh, dear god, I looked:

Geraldine Ferraro would be a brilliant choice. She’s already got star -power and gravitas, and understands the way things work in Washington, has previously established relationships with many of the Congressional heavyweights, and will have no trouble getting plum committee assignments and co-sponsors for her bills. She’s a national treasure, an old school Democratic Icon of the highest order and esteem, and, as she so well proved during the primaries, an independent minded straight-shooter beholden to no one. It would also be Bill and Hillary’s one last nice little way to say FU to a man who spent the last two years tearing down and pissing all over every thing they spent years working for, before they graciously serve him for the good of the nation and the world. She did win the popular vote, you know.

“Geraldine Ferraro”

oh sweet baby jeezuz and mon dieu! Thank you for reading that crap so I don’t need to.

Welcome back and totally fab pic!

Oh FUN - Illinois Governor Blagojevich has been arrested as part of a crimnal corruption probe:

Holy shit, whoever Double Edith is over at FB, I love you.

Re: Blagojevich - it makes me proud to live in Illinois, where every smart politician like Obama is balanced out by a hundred sleazebags.

But man, Blagojevich is a sleaze even by our lofty standards.

If anyone wants to keep Dumbass Darragh busy moderating her new petition, you can do that here.

GORGEOUS picture, Kevin. Just like being in Brooklyn.

As for the PUMAs on the Hillary groping, that’s nothing compared to what Sean Hannity and McCain’s speechwriters did to their Sarah Palin cutout.

As for CK taking over Hill’s Senate seat, besides the Kennedy name, being a good friend of Obama’s, and fundraising prowess, does she actually have government or managerial experience? Just curious. Am not advocating for Ferraro (at all), but perhaps there is a more qualified woman (yes, I’d like to have another woman) out there?

And as for Blagojevich, what is it about Illinois pols and power that turns them corrupt? Geez. It seems like just a couple years ago that Illinois Governor George Ryan was hauled off to prison. And then there was Rep. Dan Rostenkowski… God, I miss Illinois…

God, I miss Illinois…

We have a fine tradition, but for my money, nobody can top Paul Powell.

“Although he never made more than $30,000 a year, upon his death, shoe boxes with more than $800,000 were found in his hotel room residence in Springfield, Illinois.”

Beautiful pics, Kevin.  Where in Montana?  I’ve spent some time there (but not nearly as much as I’d like to), and love it.  Not enough to tempt me away from San Francisco, but still…

Tom, we were on Flathead Lake up in the north west. It’s the biggest lake in Montana.

Oh ... and the pics were taken by my wife Chris. I’m a fairly shitty photographer.

Been through there a coupla times, most recently in October 2004 going to Glacier NP.  In 1981, on my 3-week hitchhiking grand tour of the west, I got a ride from Flathead Lake (somewhere on the east shore, not sure exactly where) to Browning with a Skynyrd-style rock band from Nebraska doing the bar circuit of Montana in a converted schoolbus.  Good times.

I drank too much moose drool up at Flat Head Lake back in 2001.  Too much for me was 9.
