Blago and Palin, take a seat

We’ve finally found the most self-destructive politician in America: William J. Kelly, Republican candidate for Illinois comptroller.  This is him “singing” with Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen.  It starts with Nielsen telling him, “You’re drunk.” Kelly thought it was a good idea to embed this video on his blog:

Wonkette has more.

Eh, seen one lame drunk smarmy Republican frat boy from Illinois, you’ve seen ‘em all. Let me know when he tries to take his wife to a sex club, though.

Poor Rick Nielsen.

My thoughts exactly, Gimme. Such a thing should only be endured by a member of a truly awful Illinois band. I nominate Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon. Jim Anchower notwithstanding.

Yeah, I’m a big Cheap Trick fan.  It was heartbreaking sitting through that.  Have no idea what circumstances led to it.

Styx

I have to defend Styx, Len, if only because one of the band members has been a longtime client of a friend of mine (and no, it’s not what you think), and he tips extremely well and is always very gracious. Plus, there was that awesome “Come Sail Away” episode of South Park. But yeah, we’ve contributed more than our share of douchey “classic rock” bands to the world (Survivor, anyone?) Maybe Wilco makes up for it.

Styx was a high school staple for me.

What about Head East?  “Never Been Any Reason” should be the theme song of the Illinois Republican Party. They even had a member who was fired from the band and became a born-again Christian.

OriGuy—Head East is one of the great forgotten bands of way back when. “Get Up and Enjoy Yourself” and “Man I Wanna Be” should be required listening at all state- and federally-funded institutions.

Bill Kelly would be a lot more amusing if he didn’t so eerily resemble my despised older brother, Darth.

No way am I clicking on a link just to see a GOP wank NOT get cold-cocked by Bun E. Carlos.

“Get Up and Enjoy Yourself” and “Man I Wanna Be” should be required listening at all state- and federally-funded institutions.

Keep your music out of my gubmint, you freak.

Keep your music out of my gubmint, you freak.

And keep your uterus out of my choice of affordable mass-transit options.

(OK, that probably doesn’t make any sense. But I’ll be damned if I’m just going to stand here and take a bunch of lip from a babe.)
