Bottom-dwellers

This is the title of a recommended diary over at MyHRC:

Michelle Obama: “I want to rip (Bill’s) eyes out”

Here’s how it’s, ahem, framed:

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse for Barack Obama, this:

“I want to rip his eyes out!” she said, clawing at the air with her fingernails. One of her advisers gave her a nervous look. “Kidding!” Obama said. “See, this is what gets me into trouble.”

Michelle jokes about blinding Bill Clinton

We have a potty-mouthed adviser forced to resign after calling Hillary Clinton a ‘monster,’ another adviser stating her candidate isn’t ready to take a 3 AM call, a campaign staffer calling in to interrupt a Clinton conference call, and now this.

A would-be president’s wife saying she wants to ‘rip’ the eyes out of a 2-term President of the United States.

Uh, what’s next, exactly? Someone calling Chelsea a ‘ho?

Oh, wait, David Shuster already did that. [...]

That said, we need an IMMEDIATE apology for this remark. I don’t care if it was said in jest. This isn’t “MAD TV Runs for President;” have some damn respect, please. This series of Team Obama gaffes and missteps is rapidly crossing the line from political disaster to out-and-out embarrassment.

Here’s the full paragraph from the referenced New Yorker profile about Michelle Obama:

It’s not that Obama doesn’t know the anodyne, wifely things to say (essentially, nothing). She is, after all, a “community and external affairs” professional. But her pride visibly chafes at being asked to subsume her personality, to make herself seem duller and less independent than she is, even in the service of getting her husband elected President of the United States. In Wisconsin, I asked her if she was offended by Bill Clinton’s use of the phrase “fairy tale” to describe her husband’s characterization of his position on the Iraq War. At first, Obama responded with a curt “No.” But, after a few seconds, she affected a funny voice. “I want to rip his eyes out!” she said, clawing at the air with her fingernails. One of her advisers gave her a nervous look. “Kidding!” Obama said. “See, this is what gets me into trouble.”

And people wonder why I despise Hillshills as much as wingnuts these days.  When it comes to intellectual dishonesty and loathsome douchebaggery, I’m finding it kinda hard to tell the two apart.

SOMEWHAT RELATED: This is admittedly inconsequential, though funny (watch the video). The Obama campaign should consider taking her up on her offer. (via Daily Kosbama)

MORE: Driven to Obama.  I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of this.
