Break Out in Song’s performance of “If My Friends Could See Me Now” at NYC’s Time Warner Center

The Break Out in Song troupe performed “If My Friends Could See Me Now” for some surprised shoppers at Manhattan’s Time Warner Center yesterday. Via Runnin’ Scared’s Roy Edroso, who didn’t enjoy it as much as I did.  Hey, it’s no Hammer Pants, but it made me happy to be human and that’s good enough.

Different perspectives here and here.

Get these people the fuck out of my way.

Oh, this is so cool!  I wish someone in Denver would organize something like this.

Get a life, toasters.

Maybe we could send these yo-yos to you.  You’re welcome to all our Peruvian flute bands, too.

Maybe we could send these yo-yos to you.

Sounds good.  I’d offer to send all our cynicism back to you but I think you’ve got enough already.

In the pre-Giuliani era, “flash mobs” had a distinctly different character.

Just an observation but aren’t we supposed to be in some sort of recession or something, you know, everyone jobless, no money, no shopping, nothing like that?  Thems a hell of a lot of shopping fools in that place.

BTW where oh where is my beloved Balloon Juice?  I am getting withdrawals.

This one’s freaking great.

Minor criticism: this loses a lot of its seeming spontaneity when they publish when and where this is taking place.  How many people are really surprised when this starts given the hundreds of people already waiting and looking over the balcony.

Next time: just show up.  You’ll have an audience.  It’s New York.  There are always people around.
