Buh-Bayh

Evan Bayh not runing for reelection:

Hmmmm.

UPDATE: After Senator Cosmo TruckNutz’s victory in Massaschusetts, Bayh expressed much consternation about how the Democrats’ pushing “the far left agenda” was putting the electoral prospects of DLC types like himself in jeopardy:

“The only we are able to govern successfully in this country is by liberals and progressives making common cause with independents and moderates,” Bayh said.  “Whenever you have just the furthest left elements of the Dem party attempting to impose their will on the rest of the country—that’s not going to work too well.”

Of course, the idea that the lefties were ever running the show is laughable, and the performance of “moderates and independents” like Snowe, Lieberman and Nelson during the attempt to pass a watered-down, corporate-friendly health care bill amply demonstrated the limits of their utility. Still, if I were an optimist, I would interpret Bayh’s departure as a signal that the influence of useless centrists is waning. But being a pessimist, I’m guessing it’s something less dramatic, like crappy poll numbers or tawdry wetsuit photos. We’ll see.

Would you want to be a Democrat in Congress right now?

Sad—and depressing. Clearly majority rule means nothing when the Dems are in power.

Yet another coup for the Palin-Brown administration.

The Senate wasn’t any less polarized three weeks ago, when Bayh seemed to have every intention of running again, a thirteen million dollar war chest, and a twenty point lead.

Perhaps he is taking the election of Scott Brown just a little too hard.

I just read that the deadline to file for the race is Friday.

Bayh, a tool right down to the end…

I just read that the deadline to file for the race is Friday.

What a rat-bastard. Either that, or there’s more to this than meets the eye.

Watch the rejoicing that this Soshulist has been brought down by We the Peabrained.

Gee, seems like it’s the Blue Dogs who are running into re-election problems.

I wonder if there isn’t more to this story. But given how ridiculous the senate has been acting on all sides lately, I’m not surprised if incumbents are feeling the heat. Here’s a crazy idea: pass some shit and show your constituents you’re interested in legislation, not procedural malarkey.

Okay, I’m grumpy.

He blames partisanship and cites as an example when REPUBLICANS bailed on the deficit commission they co-sponsored.

So to punish REPUBLICANS for their obstructionism and partisanship, he’s going to throw the Indiana election in their favor.

Right.

What’s sad is that that’s not even a big deal. That’s how petty Bayh is.

Wonder what lobbying firm he’ll end up at.

Hoosier Daddy? Wonder if we’re going to find out he’s been diddling some aide or someone. (Always suspicious when a pol wheels out his wife at a press conference and thanks her for standing bayh him.)

Actually, the filing deadline is tomorrow.

Actually, the filing deadline is tomorrow.

Ouch. Can David Sirota become an Indiana resident that quickly?

Can David Sirota become an Indiana resident that quickly?

I’ve got it—Harold Ford Jr!

I’ve got it—Harold Ford Jr!

Forcing the Republicans to airlift in Alan Keys?  Oh please oh please…

Yeah, Indiana election law is apparently confusing lots of observers (don’t know anything about it myownself).

A commenter over at Weigel’s site says that deadline for signature collection is tomorrow, and deadline for declaring candidacy is Friday.  Maybe the intervening three days are for checking the signatures(?).

Ooh, yeah, Alan Keys would be awesome!  But if Indiana Dems can’t get the great man, maybe Harold could run in NY and IN simultaneously.

Someone should track down that hawt white woman who wanted Harold to call her during his 2006 Senate campaign.  Maybe she could talk him into taking on a second campaign.

Commenter “Candace” over at Weigel’s site elaborates.

Eh, whatevah!

It’s HuffPo, so I’ve no idea whether it’s accurate, but it appears there are other options: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/15/indiana-senate -democrats_n_462655.html

Brit - that’s what I’ve been reading - that the IN Democratic Party will select a candidate if there are no candidates through the petition process.  Essentially there would be no primary.  The whole thing is strange but it’s possible he intended that timing to avoid a messy primary battle for his successor.  Or maybe there’s a big messy scandal getting ready to come down the pipeline.  Nothing surprises me anymore. ;-)

Aaaand, the righties try to fire up the ratfucking machine.

I’m with Bayh. Who cares anymore? The dems could not lead a kindergarten class to lunch. Fuck it.

Jsmie, excellent. Throwing in the towel because a half-dozen, now minus one, of Blue Dogs are monopolizing whatever part of legislation the Republicans aren’t obstructing is just the way to assure my remaining funky fallopian tube some coverage. Of course it would make all the difference to me, but what does that matter? You are disappointed, and that’s what counts.
