BULLETIN: CNN confirms Obama has picked Biden for VP

Just got an email alert:

CNN confirms Sen. Barack Obama has chosen Delaware Sen. Joe Biden to be his vice-presidential running mate.

Nothing on their site yet (aside from that sentence).

MORE: Just got another email alert from MSNBC…

BREAKING NEWS: The Associated Press confirms Joe Biden as Obama’s VP pick

FROM CBS:

Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware is Barack Obama’s pick as his vice presidential running mate, CBS News and other media sources reported early Saturday morning. [...]

The official who spoke did so on condition of anonymity, saying they did not want to pre-empt a text-message announcement the Obama campaign promised for Saturday morning.Throughout the summer, Obama revealed little about which way he was leaning.

THINK PROGRESS has a lot more, including video of CNN’s John King’s “breaking news” report.

So much for the $1 million text messaging.  If I was Obama I’d be some seriously pissed at whoever leaked it before the txt messages hit.

But Biden is a good choice.  I hope.

I like this selection, and I hope this means the campaign is ready to fight dirty against McCain/Romney during the next ten weeks. It’s going to get ugly from here on out, and Biden’s a fighter.

My text came at 3:08 AM ET. Too bad the MSM already knew and I was sound asleep. That’s O for Oops.

By the way, if you reply to the text with a message such as “Old news” or “Ya fucked up” they will reply back with a text asking for your zip code so they can send news of local Obama events.  Of course, I sent mine in.

Go Bi-O

We could do worse, that’s for sure.

I’m good with this pick (and from comments I’ve been reading around the libosphere, so is a vast majority of other people).  It’s not going to win over the you-know-whos (whose numbers are grossly exaggerated), but it will win over the more reasonable Hillary supporters (the real Democrats, not the “Real Democrats”) who were still on the fence. It’s a smart/solid pick and, thank christ, it wasn’t Bayh.  I would have become a fucking PUMA if he picked Bayh.

My email didn’t come until 5:32 AM. Does anyone have Ted Stevens’ phone number? He was right! It’s not a truck.

Mine came in at 3:29. Hmmmm.

Biden wasn’t my 1st choice, but I’m warming to the prospect. He’s good at heaping derision on opponents, which is a huge plus. In my opinion, the Dems don’t heap nearly enough derision on GOP clowns who are ripe for it. I SOOOOO hope McCain picks Mittens. That debate would be must-see TV.

Comment by Betty Cracker on 08/23/08 at 07:56 AM

I just don’t see him picking Mittens after the “house” gaffe, but he is a “maverick.”

I want him to pick Rudy, but I guess that won’t happen since he’s the keynote speaker.

Comment by Kevin K. on 08/23/08 at 08:10 AM

I hope Old Dusty doesn’t pick this guy:

“I congratulate Senator Barack Obama on his selection of my friend, Senator Joe Biden, to be his vice-presidential running mate. I have enjoyed for many years the opportunity to work with Joe Biden to bring strong bipartisan support to United States foreign policy.”
Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN)

McCain/Santorum 08!

I think Obama/Biden tells the world “we’re fucking serious, this time!”, and we certainly need that.  (Which is not to denigrate Kerry - he’d have been a saint compared to Bush/Cheney.) I’ll bet Camp McCain is crapping its collective pants right now, too - and that gives me great joy.

Comment by Ripley on 08/23/08 at 08:19 AM

It’s a happy side effect of Biden’s selection that the footage of him calmly eviscerating Rudy (while walking to his car) will get massive amounts of play.

The comments at the Confluence and PUMA Pac are a riot.  This pick is really crawling up their asses (because even they’re not stupid enough to not realize it was a good one). And Riverchucky’s “airplane” post is a petulant, desperate wank job. She’s trying to spin Obama as a rightwinger for picking Biden, before she flies out to Denver to spend some quality time with Andy “Exterminate Jew Power” Martin, McCainiac Darragh Murphy and Cristi “Coulter” Adkins in a bail bondman’s office (aka The PUMA Den).

What a fucking well-crafted tool.

I’m going to have to take your word on the freakout at Confluence, etc.  I just can’t visit those fucking places anymore.  Shakespeare’s Sister is the most I can tolerate these days so thanks for being a filter.

The Lugar response is interesting.  Maybe it’s just old fashioned Senatorial collegialism which would be kind of quaint but maybe it’s more than that.  I know a lot of people would freak the fuck out if Obama made some noise about appointing people like him or Hagel to his administration but politically it would be fucking dynamite.  Those undecided types eat that kind of bipartisan shit up.

I don’t see a place for them in the administration, but I definitely see both of them being key Senate point people for an Obama administration.

I guess we can now all start guessing who will be the Sec of State, Sec Def and Chief of Staff.  I’m not sure about Sec Def, but I’m guessing Richardson and Daschle, respectively, are the front-runners for the other two.

McSame has already started with his attack ads. As reported by my boyfriend in Maryland, the ad runs like so: Biden is shown saying that he thinks Obama is too inexperienced to be president, and then Biden is shown saying that he would be happy to run alongside McCain. It’s pretty damning.

I don’t think it’s damning at all.  Things are said during primaries.  Remember Clinton’s “shame on you Barack Obama”?  The pugs woulda used that one if she had been the pick.

My thought is that if that’s what the Republican’s first volley is, they got nothing.

Comment by gimmeabreak on 08/23/08 at 10:56 AM

I agree gimme ... if that’s the depth of what they have, Obama and Biden will be laughing all the way to the White House.

Comment by poputonian on 08/23/08 at 11:05 AM

I am starting to warm to Biden as the day goes on.  The whole weekend is going to be the Obama/Biden love fest vs the “McCan’t remember how many houses I have show” on the MSM.  I just hope McShortarms picks Mittens as his veep.  If he does I have a suggestion for their campaign song. (warning: link takes you to my blog)

Well that makes me feel better, anyway. I hope so. At the very least, who’s McCain going to pick? Romney? Ridge? Lieberman? Hahahahahahahaha. He got nothing.
