Cost to accessorize Caribou Barbie: $150,000

Laughs we’re going to have over John Edward’s $400 haircut from here on out: PRICELESS

The Republican National Committee appears to have spent more than $150,000 to clothe and accessorize vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family since her surprise pick by John McCain in late August.

According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74.

The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September.

The RNC also spent $4,716.49 on hair and makeup through September after reporting no such costs in August.

Oh and not to mention the 8 grand that they´ve spent for McCains make-up alone.

Maybe they figured giving Barbie a make over would be less costly than keeping Mitt in hair goop and Grecian Formula.

I really need one of those play-calling thingees quarterbacks wear on their wrists to keep up with what’s elitist and what’s not.  I’m getting so confused.

The SpinTronic3000(TM) is down to one CRT:

First:

“The campaign does not comment on strategic decisions regarding how financial resources available to the campaign are spent,” she said.

Yeah 150K on clothes was just a stratergeric decision. Sure, we could have spent a fuckuvalot less at WalMart where RealAmerica(TM) shops, or even Macy’s, but we didn’t, So there!

Then:

“With all of the important issues facing the country right now, it’s remarkable that we’re spending time talking about pantsuits and blouses,” said spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt. “It was always the intent that the clothing go to a charitable purpose after the campaign.”

Yes, with RealAmerican(TM) families living in their cars it’s remarkable that anyone cares that the Party of RealAmerica(TM) spent the price of a nice house in much of RealAmerica(TM) on clothes in less than two months! And anyway, Governor Palin wasn’t going to keep those clothes. She was going to auction them off on eBay. I mean, you don’t expect her and her family to wear the same stuff for more than a season! Sheesh.

150,000 spent on clothes , and yet she STILL looks like an aging hooker. And maybe it would have been a good idea to have gone to a Barnes and Noble and found her a copy of “The Constitution for Dummies” , so that she could answer basic questions about the job she’s seeking without looking like a moron.

Donating the clothes to charity? Yeah right - the first person who tries to get those clothes away from her gets their arms ripped off.

I’m sure Rich “Starburst” Lowry would pony up a bundle for one of her Valentino thongs.

Does anyone else think Jeanne Cummings may have been thinking “Caribou Barbie” while she wrote this?  How often do you talk about some organization spending money to “clothe” and (especially) “accessorize” a person?  It seems like the normal phrase would be “the RNC spent $150k on clothes and accessories for Sarah Palin.”

Anyways, it’s fun but frustrating to watch the 4th estate hold in its laughter.
