Dildo of the Day: Lindsey Graham

Zandar smacks down the Graham cracker and then rolls out this bit of wisdom:

Now I know that I’ve said that the real reason the GOP wants to kill this [health care] bill is exactly because of race:  that this bill will help minorities is anathema to the teabagger jagoffs who “want to take the country back”.  Some, not all, but some of the opposition to this bill is racism, pure and simple.

It’s telling how desperate the Repubs are that they are now playing this card as a last resort.  It’s also a sign of how much better than the status quo it will be.  Right now the focus is on this being a “big government spending” bill.  But if the GOP wants to make it a “welfare handout to blacks” issue, the center is going to turn on the Republicans again.

Khrist on a burning kross, that’s unbelievable. McCain’s favorite butt gerbil tries hard to sell himself as a principled conservative who’s not as crazy as 99% of Palmetto State GOPers, but clearly he fits right in.

So Jane, about those teabaggers we’re supposed to be making common cause with…

All the more reason that the lefties need to unify and spend the primary season helping our tea bag friends to get their hard right candidates on the ballot.

In November, they’ll either split the vote or lose the center in virtually every purple district in the country.

Then the 2011 congress can get some substantial legislation passed without worrying about what ‘ol Liebermann thinks.

Zandars 100% right about the center turning on the Republicans again.  Not sure if as many moderate Repubs (what’s left of them) will vote Dem as they did in ‘08 because the Repubs have been effective at beating the OUT OF CONTROL GOV’T SPENDING drums (not a hard thing to do—much like “cut taxes!).

Nate Silver has done some interesting work.  He compared Democratic representatives’ voting record against their districts’ partisan voting index to identify who are the most and least valuable to retain in the context of the district they represent.

The results are interesting and sometimes counterintuitive.

What’s missing from the lists, of course, are the nuances of seniority, approval rating, competitive landscape, and other variables that you need to consider when deciding what races to target with money and/or volunteer effort.

Memories may be beautiful, and yet...

I’m sorry, but debating the kill-billers on the policy merits of their position has become a bit like debating the global warming denialists. The denalists operate by picking and choosing which evidence they cite and what arguments they respond to. Sometimes, they raise fairly good points or expose legitimately sloppy work on behalf of “consensus” scientists. Sometimes, they are being contrarian for contrarianism’s sake. And sometimes, they’re just throwing a bunch of sh*t at the wall and seeing what sticks, hoping that the underlying truth or lack thereof is lost in the fog of debate.

If things don’t calm down the next Netroots Nation is either going to be suffering from extremely low attendance or could be the biggest hissy fit ever confined to the dimensions of a conference space.

Ahem…

Yeah, I was already reconsidering going next year again.  While I had some good times, I mostly didn’t fit in with that crowd.  I seriously doubt that situation is going to improve in the next 9 months, lol.

Thanks for the link, K.

I don’t think they can help themselves.  I think they’re going to go down the road and use “this is welfare for blacks and illegals!” from here on out.

It was dog whistle stuff before.  That didn’t stop the bill.  Now it’s overt.

Yeah, somehow people decided to stop being coy.  I think I actually prefer it that way - you know what you’re getting up front.

I hear ya, Gimme. Why should Teabaggers and Other Loonies bother memorizing code like “states’ rights” and “personal responsibility” when you can just call a spade a spade, so to speak?

Maybe they’ll use the Dark Arts to resurrect the rotting corpses of Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms, and George Wallace before this is all over.
