Drink for change!

I gotta get started on that.

Feel good moment: My friend Amy is bringing by a friend from Rwanda she met when she was filming a documentary there.  He thinks there’s no way America would ever elect a black man for President. I can’t wait to shake his hand and proudly exclaim him, “Yes we can!”

Downtown Seattle is going to be one big party tonight.

I’m going out to drink beer for a few hours while we wait for results.  At some point, I should be calling in to Tommy’s show with some South Wasilla perspective.

Yes we can!

Watching from Australia! Hope levels dialed up to 11!
I’m calm, predicting a landslide...Allyson chewing the nails at every poll dip and duck.

Whatever the result just wanted to thank everyone, Kevin, Pop and Betty for the incredible work in keeping even australian US political junkies sane. Rumproast has been one of our first clicks when we get up in the morning and the last at night!

It’s been a pleasure and you should all be ridiculously proud at your commitment to fighting the good fight!

Good luck guys...we’re with you all the way!

42,000 Indiana votes counted ... 51%-48% Obama.

No way to know for sure where they’re coming from but can’t be good for the Mac who claim’s he’s back.

Comment by poputonian on 11/04/08 at 06:40 PM

And remember, Indiana picked Dole over Clinton, just to put in perspective what a total loser McCain is.

John McCain—Worse. Than.Dole.

Comment by poputonian on 11/04/08 at 06:42 PM

3% in and Indiana still trending slightly Obama. Wow—early precincts show some southern Indiana counties trending blue. Still too early but this is astonishing. Southern Indiana is like Kentucky. No results in urban Indy, and the polls aren’t even closed in extreme heavy Democratic Lake County (near Chicago.) Gonna be a long night for John the Bomber.

Comment by poputonian on 11/04/08 at 06:57 PM

My nerves are shot - why are IN and VA show so much of a McCain lead?

Denise, Obama’s big Indiana counties, urban Marion (Indy), and Lake (Chicago burbs) have not reported anything yet. Obama is looking good right now. As Matthews said, if Obama gets a net 80,000 votes in Lake County, he will take Indiana.

Comment by Denise aka gimmeabreak on 11/04/08 at 07:48 PM

No worries, Denise. And I mean that literally! :)

My PhD friend just gave me Obama and two percentage points in Indiana. The stakes are a night of drinks.

Hell, Obama might win Indiana outright.

Comment by poputonian on 11/04/08 at 07:51 PM

Obama taking Florida for now! Yes

I sure as hell hope so. If Florida goes for Obama , it might help erase the stain of Jeb , Cruella De’Harris in 2000. After seeing the GOTV effort here first hand , I can honestly say that if we don’t carry this state this time , it won’t be for lack of effort.
I worked on the Kerry campaign in 2004 , and they were rank amatuers compared to Obama.

Former Republican senator Rick Santorum has had his right to vote challenged in Pennsylvania, “and election officials will not count his absentee ballot (or that of his wife) until the matter is resolved, Allegheny County Elections Department director Mark Wolosik confirmed. Erin Vecchio, chairman of the Penn Hills School Board and chair of the Penn Hills Democratic Party, says she challenged the Santorums’ right to vote in Pennsylvania this morning because they really live in Virginia.”

John McCain on CNN, he’s said “My friends” three times already.  He’s conceded.  They’re booing.  He said “please”.  He says he respects him by inspiring millions of Americans.  He deeply admires that. etc etc.

Comment by Rebecca on 11/04/08 at 11:26 PM

Many’s the time I’ve been mistaken
And many times confused
Yes, and I’ve often felt forsaken
And certainly misused
Oh, but I’m all right, I’m all right
I’m just weary to my bones
Still, you don’t expect to be
Bright and bon vivant
So far away from home, so far away from home

And I don’t know a soul who’s not been battered
I don’t have a friend who feels at ease
I don’t know a dream that’s not been shattered
or driven to its knees
but it’s all right, it’s all right
for we lived so well so long
Still, when I think of the
road we’re traveling on
I wonder what’s gone wrong
I can’t help it, I wonder what’s gone wrong

And I dreamed I was dying
I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly
And looking back down at me
Smiled reassuringly
And I dreamed I was flying
And high up above my eyes could clearly see
The Statue of Liberty
Sailing away to sea
And I dreamed I was flying

We come on the ship they call the Mayflower
We come on the ship that sailed the moon
We come in the age’s most uncertain hours
and sing an American tune
Oh, and it’s alright, it’s all right, it’s all right
You can’t be forever blessed
Still, tomorrow’s going to be another working day
And I’m trying to get some rest
That’s all I’m trying to get some rest

Comment by Denise aka gimmeabreak on 11/04/08 at 11:26 PM

I really don’t understand why he went hard right.  The hard right never thought he’d win the Republican nomination, people voted for him in the first place because he wasn’t like that lot and the hard right was shocked!

He let his supporters down going down that road so they left him in droves.

I have a friend in CA and she was worried that if the election was called before CA voting was over that Prop 8 would go in the winning column because people would not bother to go vote. :(

Then again, shows how much people in CA care about Prop 8 if they’re going to let it slide into being.

Dawn comes to Pumaville:

Susie1945 11.05.08 at 12:41 am

Well Pumas - I’m pulling my money out of my ira tomorrow - I am calling Hillary’s campaign office and demanding my money back from her

I am forever an independent and as soon as I can I’m leaving this country -

I sure would like to know where the hell the 4 million PUMAs are - has this whole damn thing been a fantasy and we all fell for it - is it real - what the hell did we work our butts off for the last 5 months for? I want some answers because I feel betrayed in a big way……………………….

Comment by StrangeAppar8us on 11/05/08 at 01:26 AM

What country does “Susie1945” think will actually take her?

Comment by Kevin (not K) on 11/05/08 at 01:32 AM

Exit poll results:

“Who Did You Want to Win the Democratic Nomination?”

Clinton Democrats:  Obama=82% McCain=17%
Obama Democrats:  Obama=97% McCain=2%

14% of respondents were Clinton Democrats, and 21% were Obama Democrats.

So 82% of Clinton Democrats came home.  That’s a pretty typical result for a Presidential election.  The PUMA phenomenon had no impact on the election.

Comment by Cello on 11/05/08 at 01:43 AM

Another telling exit poll result:

“Worried About Another Terrorist Attack in U.S.?”

Very Worried (25%):  Obama=43% McCain=55%
Somewhat Worried (45%):  Obama=51% McCain=48%
Not Too Worried (23%):  Obama=67% McCain=30%
Not At All Worried (5%):  Obama=69% McCain=27%

So McCain and the Republicans got the fear vote.  Republicans are frightened little children.  Pity them.

Comment by Cello on 11/05/08 at 01:48 AM

Cello,

Poor dears, tiny little insignificant scared nothings…

Comment by billy delyon on 11/05/08 at 02:04 AM

One last exit poll result:

Vote By Region:

Northeast (22%):  Obama=58% McCain=40%
Midwest (24%):  Obama=53% McCain=45%
South (32%): Obama=47% McCain=52%
West (22%): Obama=55% McCain=42%

So Obama won every region of the country except the South.  No offense to the Southerners here, but if it weren’t for the South, this would be a much more liberal nation.

Comment by Cello on 11/05/08 at 02:05 AM

What country does “Susie1945” think will actually take her?

Damn, you beat me to it!  I’d have to think she doesn’t want a country with socialist taxes so that takes out Europe and the antipodes.  Saudi Arabia, maybe?

Rebecca, poor Liddy.  Now she’s gonna have nothing to do but fend off her Viagrafied hubbie.

Aw well...serves her and her bad face lift right, eh? ;)

Comment by Rebecca on 11/05/08 at 02:11 AM

I’ve got Al Franken and Coleman at 42% each with a difference of 6309 votes, 93% counted.

I’ll cross my fingers for Al because I’ve got his “Lies and the Lying Liars” book and it cracked me up.

Comment by Rebecca on 11/05/08 at 02:32 AM

Rebecca,
I’m keeping a close eye on that race as well…

I’ve gone through the whole state county by county’s, some blue counties are low in the precinct count, so hopefully there’s some votes there for Al. Loved Lying Liars. Great book, I listened to him pretty regularly when he was on Air America too, I know he would be a good senator, and he really does care about America…

Comment by billy delyon on 11/05/08 at 02:35 AM

Make that a 1212 difference with 94% reporting.

Bachmann appears to have won, 47-43.

Comment by Rebecca on 11/05/08 at 02:45 AM

billy, I didn’t know who Al Franken was but the love of my life lives in Iowa and he sent the book to me saying that he thought I might like it.  I totally LOVED it!  But then I’m always up for people that speak plain English by saying “fuck” and stuff. ;-) j/k

Cali Prop 8 is currently 53% yes 47% No - 48% reporting
Abortion Limits is currently 52% No, 48% yes - 47% reporting.

Why has the abortion limits not got as much press as Prop 8?

“This measure would amend the state constitution to require physicians to notify the parents or legal guardian of a pregnant minor at least 48 hours before preforming an abortion involving that minor.  The measure does not require that parent or guardian’s actual consent to perform the abortion etc”

So if no consent is sort, what is the point in this?  Let’s put the minor through added stress but let her do what she deems best for herself anyway...doesn’t make sense to me.

The way the vote is going, let’s not stress out a teen at a stressful time in their life (agree) but dear lord, don’t let people that love each other marry! (disagree).

Oooh Keith Ellison romped in!  I’m so glad he didn’t get done by all that anti muslim stuff thrown at Obama.  I thought there might be a rebound on him.

prop 8 is killing me.

Damn rednecks in the northeast of the state, all central and most of southern all ‘yes’ buy big percentages. Ugh. The commercials they had were the worst. Full of lies and bullshit.

Mercy…

Grant Park was crazy, thrilling, unbelievable. I feel like I haven’t slept in weeks so I can’t imagine how the Obamas feel right now. But I’m still not able to go to bed—I’m reliving it all.

I’m proud, happy, shocked—and fully aware of how much work lies ahead. But tonight, I feel like I have my country back. Meet the “real” America, everybody.

Oh, and if anyone is still wondering just what it is that community organizers do? They change the world.

Looked incredible out there Kerry!

The tears were flowing here in Cali watching.

Great stuff…

I remember how I felt 4 years ago.

The difference between now and then seems like a lifetime ago. Specially these last 2 years watching this amazing story open itself up in front of all our eye’s as well as participate in it all…

Amazing!

Mercy!

I was in D.C. Tuesday morning, actually inside the White House, and spoke with a few Secret Service types who were really looking forward to the election AND the inauguration being over. (They have already begun inauguration preparations all over D.C. Pretty amazing.)

Made it back to CT in plenty of time to vote (Jim Himes beat Chris Shays! Thanks in part to me!) and was up until midnight last night, crying tears of joy over my keyboard as I covered the election live. Just added Obama’s acceptance speech and some other cool stuff, which is definitely worth a look (hint). : )
