Finally, Obama Gets a Primary Challenger

He’s multiply-defeated office-seeker Cody Robert Judy...and he’s everything we knew he would be.

Full story here.

Note the velvet lion and the soundtrack from Rocky IV.

And remember — just because you can’t get elected doesn’t mean you can’t govern. But it helps if you know how to dig and fill a post-hole.

I still think Cindy Sheehan needs to run, I want to see the televised “debate” between this clown and Cindy Sheehan…I’m OK if Obama fails to show up, in fact I think I’d count that in his favor.

Colorful past:

While preparing to speak at a CES fireside being held at Brigham Young University’s Marriott Center on February 7, 1993, [Howard W.] Hunter was confronted by Cody Judy, who rushed onto the rostrum and threatened Hunter and the audience of 15,000–17,000. Judy carried a briefcase that he claimed contained a bomb and held what appeared to be a detonator-like device. Judy demanded that Hunter read a three-page document that supposedly detailed God’s plan for Judy to lead the church, which Hunter refused to do. The audience spontaneously sang “We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet”, during which students from the audience and then security personnel overtook Judy. After Judy was taken away, Hunter delivered his prepared remarks, a talk entitled “An Anchor to the Souls of Men.”

I think Cody Jarrett would be a tougher Primary opponent than Judy.

Nice catch, Brit!

So, the firebaggers now have to chose between a domestic terrorist birther and an anti-abortion extremist / Terri Shaivo nut (Randall Terry)...

Oh my, I listened to a couple of minutes of that video. Word salad.

Maybe it’s in the vid but he’s a Birther:

“So, let The Birther Movement unite and fight in the Democrat Primary!”

@Bob Stanley — Yeah, he opens the video with a slam at our ineligible Kenyan President.

Thanks for the link, though. Nice to see the Post & Email is still doing God’s work.

For any that are sniffy about Wikipedia as a source (though the incident is properly referenced there and a Google search on Cody Judy bomb threat throws up about 93,700 results), here’s another account from a primary source with an added detail:

Cody Judy of Bakersfield, Calif., appeared in 4th Circuit Court Feb. 9 on charges of kidnapping, a second degree felony; aggravated assault, a third degree felony; and assault, a Class B misdemeanor. Prosecutors also requested a 30-day psychiatric evaluation. Bail was set at $100,000.

Police said the man was the same person who a week earlier had left guns and ammunition inside Temple Square late at night as a “gift” to the prophet.

A little more digging reveals his hilarious and not uninventive defense:

But Judy says he never claimed to have a bomb. He said he had a B.O.M. (pronounced “bomb”)—a copy of the Book of Mormon, which in fact is what was in the briefcase. “We constantly use metephoric and symbolic meaning to many things in a church meeting,” he writes.

He goes on to ask, “What do we do with all the seminary students who call out they have a b.o.m.; Or are asked by their instuctors if they brought their b.o.m’s? Prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law?”

Oh, Judy, Judy, Judy ...

He served 8 years in prison off and on, out of a 15-year maximum sentence, and was released on parole at the end of 2001, soon thereafter staging an unwelcome run for Congress as a Democrat.

The Daily Show ran a slot on Judy titled “Putting the Con back in Congress” back in 2002 during this, one of his numerous unsuccessful runs for office.

Still, fellow birfer Donald Trump apparently liked his schtick earlier in the year. (One weird thing I’ve discovered is that Judy’s online outpourings are often drenched in slapback echo - and in this case horribly dubbed rapturous applause from an implausibly large audience, possibly encouraged by the presence of his B.O.M. The clip’s 15 minutes long and really not worth the listen ... he has his own YouTube channel here.)

As ever, Patrick at BadFiction was ahead of the pack and had his number back in June.

Judy also reminds me of someone.

Thanks, Brit. Despite his superficial craziness, however, I think he’s going to exert a powerful appeal to bloggers who think the best way to move Obama to the Left is to align yourself with his critics on the Far Right.

drenched in slapback echo

Ha! I noticed that too. I kept expecting him to whip out his tele and favor us with a little surf rock.

Well, a Utah band called Ether released an album called Cody Judy in 1996. Here’s the title track, which I fully expect to be used on Judy’s campaign appearances.

Prosecutors also requested a 30-day psychiatric evaluation…

...of themselves, for living in a country in which someone seems to take this buffoon seriously enough to adjust a camera that’s shooting him “so that it looks right.”

Plus, you’ll never get anywhere with a name like Cody Judy.  Talk about a want of gravitas.  At least make it Cody Judith, man.

YAFB, that song kinda rocks.

The sound of a band that knows it’s got a kick-ass drummer.

The sound of a band that knows it’s got a kick-ass drummer.

Reportedly, it had two!

Damn!

Someone tell Jaimoe.

Couldn’t stop staring at the lion.
