Foxes Guarding Henhouses & Open Thread

Florida Governor Rick Scott, whose attempts to disenfranchise Democrats backfired when he inspired them instead to endure waits as long as eight hours to vote, now says it’s time to review and reform the voting system:

“We are glad that so many voters made their voices heard in this election, but as we go forward we must see improvements in our election process,” Scott said in a statement. “I have asked Secretary of State Ken Detzner to review this general election and report on ways we can improve the process after all the races are certified.”

Maybe it’s time to federalize voting processes. A democracy can’t function if eligible voters are prevented from casting ballots, and Scott and other GOP clowns were openly subverting the process. They shouldn’t be in a position to do so.

Please feel free to discuss whatever.

I’m so happy the President ended up trouncing Mitt in the popular vote.  These fuckers love moving the goalposts when things don’t suit them.

Federalize voting?! Why, it flies in the very face of States’ Rights! What about privatization; that ALWAYS works for the best!

haha, just trying to sound like a Republican. I agree that there needs to be a national standard with effective, un-tamperable voting machines that aren’t purchased by either party. We need standard hours, appropariate numbers of machines-per-precinct, and availability of poll places so people don’t have to stand in line for an unreasonable amount of time.

It’s something that shoild have been taken care of years ago.

For those who haven’t already heard about or signed the petition to urge Macy’s to Dump Donald Trump, here’s what you need to know.

*head desk*

Okay, when I moved from Cali to Georgia, I was flummoxed by people robbing jewelry stores with backhoes and stories about goats on train tracks in the news.

Now? They want to secede from the Union.

I’m just….

Where the hell did I move to again?

My Canuckian friends love to tease me about just how remarkably untrustworthy our voting system is in the US.  Up there, just a few weeks of campaigning, a LOT less vitriol, and everyone gets a paper ballot.  No glitchy voting machines, no skullduggery by wingnut secs. od state in select overly important midwestern states.  Sounds like paradise, albeit a frozen one.
