This one’s going to leave a mark. The greatest stand-up comedian ever and a huge influence during my formative years, George Carlin, has passed away at the age of 71. I am seriously bummed.
OOPS: Shun me. I deserve to be shunned! Sorry, ts, I was feeling fragile and forgiving.
MORE: This YouTube user has uploaded a treasure trove of Carlin videos. Figured it would help you folks who don’t want to sort through thousands of quickly-produced, shoddy memorial videos.
Yeah, really sad news. He was definitely one of my biggest influences and a real role model (yeah, I know) when I was growing up. Hunter S. Thompson’s passing was tough, but somewhat inevitable (although suicide wasn’t how I imagined he’d go). This one hurts. I was the proud recipient of the title of Class Clown in my high school yearbook (I also came in third for “nicest smile") and I owe it all to Carlin (and a little bit to early Nat’l Lampoons). His routines near the end of his career got a little too scathing and angry for even me, but when he was at his best no one could touch him and I include everyone on that list (Pryor, Bruce, etc.).
