George Carlin RIP

George Carlin—1937-2008

This one’s going to leave a mark.  The greatest stand-up comedian ever and a huge influence during my formative years, George Carlin, has passed away at the age of 71.  I am seriously bummed.

And, of course, you have to throw in one of his “seven words” routines...

MORE: Credit where credit is due, Ann Althouse has a good post up about Carlin.

OOPS: Shun me.  I deserve to be shunned! Sorry, ts, I was feeling fragile and forgiving.

MORE: This YouTube user has uploaded a treasure trove of Carlin videos.  Figured it would help you folks who don’t want to sort through thousands of quickly-produced, shoddy memorial videos.

Fuckin’ bummer, eh?  What a way to start the week…

Yeah, really sad news. He was definitely one of my biggest influences and a real role model (yeah, I know) when I was growing up. Hunter S. Thompson’s passing was tough, but somewhat inevitable (although suicide wasn’t how I imagined he’d go).  This one hurts. I was the proud recipient of the title of Class Clown in my high school yearbook (I also came in third for “nicest smile”) and I owe it all to Carlin (and a little bit to early Nat’l Lampoons). His routines near the end of his career got a little too scathing and angry for even me, but when he was at his best no one could touch him and I include everyone on that list (Pryor, Bruce, etc.).

sad news indeed

What else to say but, “Shit, Piss, Fuck, Cunt, Cocksucker, Motherfucker and Tits.”

The Hippy Dippy Weatherman ....

“Tonight’s forecast . . . dark, continued mostly dark tonight turning to widely scattered light in the morning.”
