Gibbsy!

I’m not crazy about chatter indicating that Rahm Emanuel may be Obama’s Chief of Staff or that John Kerry will be Secretary of State, but Robert Gibbs as press secretary sounds perfect to me.

Fire away in the comments about who you’d like to see in top slots in the Obama administration…

UPDATE: Well, Emanuel is in and several people in the comments are making a good case for him. I’m just not a big fan because of his open dissing of Dean’s 50-state strategy and trying to take all of the credit for the ‘06 wins. Here’s a Politico article of possible picks including a Kennedy two-fer: Caroline Kennedy for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for head of the EPA.

D’oh—cross-posted! Feel free to boot mine…

Not RFK Jr. at EPA.  One would think you’d need to respect science to get a job like that.

Richardson at State

Fitzgerald at DOJ

D’oh—cross-posted! Feel free to boot mine…

No, that’s fine.  The Hannity smackdown is a perfect example of why I want him as press secretary.

Patrick Fitzgerald for AG would be all kinds of awesome—a great symbol of taking back the DOJ from the partisan Christianist idiots.

And I think Emanuel will be okay—he knows the lay of the land, he’s got sharp elbows, he’s bright, and I think that he’s probably pretty good at keeping people focused and not letting it dissolve in in-fighting, which is always the biggest concern with a new administration—even one for the drama-resistant Obama squad.

Our genius Governor Blago apparently said he thinks Illinois state senate honcho Emil Jones would be a good fit for Obama’s senate seat. Um, no. In case you didn’t hear me in Springfield, Governor Mortifying, NO FUCKING WAY!

I mean, sure, Jones helped Obama out a lot, but he’s a state party hack nonetheless and putting him in the U.S. Senate would be so very, very wrong. I assume the Obama folks are telling him that very thing.

But points to Blago for not clearing his throat and pointing to himself, I guess.

I like that he almost seems like a Daily Show correspondent, but with teeth.

like they say ..“it takes a thief to catch a thief”..or something to that effect

My guess is Obama chose Rahm because he needs Rahm to pass through essential legislation that wont happen as long as Republicans, and their cockgobbling lobbyists are in Congress (and conservative Democrats as well). I aint too thrilled about Rahm, but this is a shrewd move by Obama. He needs Rahm to help him navigate the treacherous seas ahead

I dont wanna see Susan Rice anywhere near Obama and that has so far been one of my sources of discontent with Obama..she supported the Iraq war initially and if anyone like didnt have the judgement to denounce the war, they should not be around Obama.

And why the fuck is Holbrooke still around? this guy is more a GOP cocksucker than a Democrat. He supported the war against Iraq and had supported the very debilitating sanctions against Iraq, which amounted to the virtual destruction of Iraq even back then, when President Syphilis was around. And Holbrooke didnt even have the balls to do anything about Rwanda and is basically a stooge for the right wing Likud party in Israel. Same goes with Kerry…I dont care how many amends Kerry has made…if we are going to boot Hillary off the island, Kerry goes with her for the same reasons. Kerry has lot of the ketchup money…time for him to retire. Kerry can get Transport Sec if he wants

and I dont know why Obama is even considering free marketeers like Summers or Volcker or Buffet? why not Galbraith or Stiglitz for fed Chairman or Treasury Sec?

Robert Gates should stay as Sec Defense. He has been frank with Bush about going to war with Iran, and I think he is probably the main reason Commander Codpiece hasnt bombed Iran yet. if he resigns, I want Samantha Power as Sec of Defense. she will use the military for good purposes, like stopping the genocide in Darfur (remember, she was the Rwanada genocide expert)

I wanna see Chuck Hagel or Jack Reed or Richardson as Sec of State.

I nominate Joe Lieberman as Ambassador to Siberia.

I nominate Joe Lieberman as Ambassador to Siberia.

Damn, I had Lady Lynn lined up for that….What is Waziristan like this time of year?

I dont know iceberg wedge, i think those bad spelling mullahs in Waziristan would rather resort to gay sex with each other than have Lady Lynn step foot in their holy territory. Good suggestion though…

The only thing I worry about with pulling these senators and congresspeople is taking a look at how they find a replacement. If it’s appointment by a Republican governor, or some other way that a Republican could wind up with the vacancy then I say leave them where they are and look elsewhere.

Fuck, I wanted to see Betty Cracker as Press Secretary.

Digby as Sec State, Greenwald as AG, TBogg as Secretary of Laughter, Hamsher as Health Sec, Niewert for Interior, TS as Secretary of Holy Snark and Goofiness, Turley as OLC, Maddow as Secretary of Awesomely Smart People Making Rational Decisions, and of course, Erick Erickson as dog poop scooper and walker. He serves at Malia’s pleasure and takes his orders from Sasha.

Most Catholics are not fundie creationists (I assume that was the basis for the comment?)  RFK, Jr actually has a very good record on environmental issues - would probably be a good choice in that position.

It’s his vaccines-might-cause autism position I think that people find objectionable.  Here’s one linky:

Personally, I think Emmanuel and BO are more like pretend friends.  Besides, Emmanuel has always been one to try to keep feet on both sides of the fence.  He has always been a shadowy character to me, the one that is sent to keep an eye on the left wing progressive side of the party.  And yet he is one to always caught dipping in the DLC side-bets.  I would say he prides himself on being able to do more than the average congressman.  So I think it is very smart for Barak to weigh him down with the exhausting job of CoS.  You don´t want Emmanuel in the congress pulling power plays.  Axelrod will be his Tortoise always there in the end.  Besides, the DLC wing of our party is almost irrelavent…no need leaving his overambitious ass there to get greedy or indulge in any ¨movements¨
Even more important it gives him the perfect strong Jewish face, and more ammunition to shoot down potentially problematic appointments like Larry Summers, and other Dem-likud-liters that will feel obligated to insert themselves in Dept. of Defense.  Galbraith or Stiglitz would definitely be a great start on the economy.
