Ginormous, ambulatory man-boob confused by Richard Cohen column

NRO’s Jonah Goldberg still doesn’t have the hang of this writey-debatey thing:

Cohen’s point, of course, is that it’s a stupid question based on an erroneous assumption, sorta like if I were to ask, “What kind of a butterfly net is Jonah Goldberg?” Not a Very Good One.

It’s sad when people are confused by Richard Cohen columns. I think we can conclude that Goldberg is Not a Very Good Rocket Scientist too.

Jonah’s protestations against Super-Serious Capitalism are All The Funnier since it’s obvious that the word he wants, but can’t quite locate, is “supercilious.”

Such are the struggles of a columnist who is Not a Very Good Example of a Self-Made Man.

Just remember, we’re talking about a guy who believes Hitler was a Socialist Democrat, because the Nazi party had the word “Socialist” in its name and there’s a “D” in NSDAP. Jonah probably thinks the Freemasons are a trade-school for bricklayers and Birchers plant trees on Arbor Day.

Jonah is so convinced of the negative attack value of the label “Socialist” that he will brook no dilution of the word nor any admission of the truth that it is not in fact an absolute concept with a fixed definition that it is ALWAYS EVIL. That he can only defend that position with word games and crappy analogies should come as no surprise to regular readers and people who bought his book. This was a particularly lazy and ineffective post, however, albeit on a blog where Lazy and Ineffective are registered trademarks.

That Socialism (government seizure and distribution of land) settled the continent and was happily applied by both Nixon (wage and price controls) and Reagan (Federal takeover of air traffic control) as a useful and necessary tool of government are imperfect arguments against Goldberg’s book-length term paper, but by raising them I have already given more thought to Jonah than he gave to Cohen.

It’s interesting to pause for a moment, and wonder if Jonah actually believes that Obama is a Socialist, at least to the extent that Jonah understands what Socialism is.  I will posit that he doesn’t believe Obama is a Socialist.

But, Jonah also understands that mediocre on-line publications like his own need to pander to the salivate on-demand sect of “conservatives.”

My other thought on this is: what a Pantload.

This is all very interesting but I’m still giggling at “ambulatory man-boob.”

@Omlomova

I guffawed ratherly loudly to the answer “not a very good one.”  Some would also argue Obama’s not a very good Democrat, too.  But to hear the loud-spoken Conservatives Obama is Left of the leftiest of the Left.
