I’m so nervous!

Gimme a hug...

Win or lose, regularly-scheduled blogging will resume tomorrow.  Right now I’m all about getting my game face on.

p.s.  Best of luck to former North Carolina Wake Forest player Manamongst Hussein tonight.  A Huskies-Tar Heels matchup would make for one hell of a championship game. (UPDATE: D’oh! Manamongst played for Wake Forest. Senility, I embrace you!)

SUNDAY UPDATE: I lied.  I’m going to plant basil, parsley and cilantro and then go hang out in the park instead of blogging today.

KK, forgive me, but I will never understand basketball. To me, it is simply a squeakier version of hockey, with a lot more goals.

As you may have guessed, I was the kid who was always picked last for gym teams, and the unanimous vote-getter for “target” in Dodgeball.

The fact that all of my former grade-school tormentors have taken their own lives or died in bizarre automotive mishaps is the sort of weird coincidence I leave to the statisticians and actuaries.

Canadian Curling—now there’s a man’s game.

Wouldn’t it save time if the baskets were moved closer together? Say within about thirty feet of each other. Instead of driving to the net, they could simply pirouette.

Just trying to help.

Actually, even I can enjoy basketball, as long as there are slo-mo replays. Those big sequoias contending with each other in mid-air look positively godlike.

I used to work for an artist who played in the playgrounds all over NYC: West 4th, among others. He was a collagist, and he had me tearing out all the newspaper pics of those b.ball gods in mid-jump, arms upraised, warlike expressions—-it was great material.

Still, when the game’s on, I do find it helpful to bring some embroidery.

I totally understand, believe it or not. I’ve never been able to watch sports on TV. I’m a complete failure at guy-hood. Like Strange, I was always last to get picked in high school sports. I did score a great basket one time in gym class, with an impossible and indifferent shoot from a ridiculous distance that somehow managed to go through the hoop. I got dirty looks from both sides.

That “thwump!” photo is pretty darned impressive, I must say.

Sorry Kev,

Your boys have nothing to be ashamed of.  Tom had his boys playing like 36 year olds on a dirt court.  Another victim of the Izzo style slop-fest.

Just to clarify, I played at Wake Forest, but being a North Carolinian by birth we all default to the last Carolina team standing…typically UNC.  I was a tarheel fan before I signed any letter of intent anyway.

Though a win for the Spartans could be a tremendous emotional boost for the state of Michigan.

Just to clarify, I played at Wake Forest

D’oh! Sorry about that, MH. I guess I should have gone back through the archives to confirm.

Feel. So. Stupid.

Regarding Mich St., I don’t know if they won as much as we lost.  A.J. Price scored 15 points but he should have had about twice that with all of the missed opportunities and Kemba Walker’s age clearly showed last night.  They could have really used Dyson yesterday, but, hell, I didn’t think they were going to make the final four without them, so it was a good run, all things considered.

Yeah Kevin, playing without Dyson clearly hurt, and poor Kemba got his number called to do what he does best in that crucial last 5 minutes and he blew some key layups.  I would have take Thabeet out long before, shot block attempts are what a team like MSU lives off of.  They rarely hit their first shot attempt…and generally live off of second, third and fourth chance shots.  I would have stuffed the ball into Robinson until his hands fell off.

I’m sorry your Huskies lost.  I always root for Big East teams so I wanted them to win too but is disappointment over the outcome of a sporting event really just cause to bring more cilantro into the world?  That shit is the anus of herbs.  So fucking nasty.  Please rethink this.
