It’s that woman again

OK, I give up. I guess it’s officially Palin Week here. What the hell. Hippopotamuses and trampolines and all that.

As if the gusher of bollocks that’s been spewed all over since the Gulf of Mexico oilcano erupted wasn’t enough, as if she hadn’t given us enough material to fill a webful of blogs in the last couple of weeks, TPM reports that Palin and her handlers think they’ve come up with a formula whereby she can slam “extreme greenies” while absolving herself of being part of the problem, and still get to shriek “DRILL, BABY, DRILL!”

She twats:

As Brian Beutler at TPM points out:

Of course just two months ago, in a widely circulated missive, Palin attacked President Obama’s plan to open up large swaths of the U.S. coastline to potential drilling for being too little, too late. “[L]et’s not forget,” she wrote, “that while Interior Department bureaucrats continue to hold up actual offshore drilling from taking place, Russia is moving full steam ahead on Arctic drilling, and China, Russia, and Venezuela are buying leases off the coast of Cuba.”

And that’s without even dipping into the treasure trove of statements from her failed ‘08 vice presidential bid.

Oh, go ahead, let’s dip. If your ears will bear it:

This is enough of a mega-clusterfuck without blaming the blessed “greenies” for it all. Join with me if you will as I throw open my window and scream into the evening breeze Alaskawards ...

FOR FUCK’S SAKE, ENOUGH ALREADY!

Yours grumpily, and about ready to rip Tony Hayward’s head off and throw it to whatever’s left of the sealife.

h/t Betty Cracker.

UPDATE: In case you don’t venture into the comments on this post, as the ever-astute Allan reminds me:

How’s that safe onshore drilling thing workin’ out for ya?  Now do you get it?

Gah!

UPDATE 2: BILL, baby, BILL!

WASHINGTON—President Barack Obama says it’s time to roll back “billions of dollars in tax breaks” for oil companies and use the money for clean energy research and development.

Nice that the Palin rally in that clip was in Clearwater.  When you want a crowd to chant in unison behind a creepy parental figure, go to the heart of Scientology country.

Now do you get it?

Yeah, I get it. You don’t really want to be President.

No comment on last week’s on-land BP oil spill in Alaska, Moose-Cheeks? I mean, it’s not like you really need Todd’s BP pension now.

She knows she’ll be caught in a lie, she doesn’t give a shit.

Well, I for one welcome our new misbegotten Bizarro overlords!

And before some Palinoid troll or firebagger turns up here to hump the “Obama decided to OK offshore drilling and said it was safe” meme, yup he did. He even admitted he was wrong about some of that. But even the illiberal Palin had him sussed:

Many Americans fear that President Obama’s new energy proposal is once again “all talk and no real action,” this time in an effort to shore up fading support for the Democrats’ job-killing cap-and-trade (a.k.a. cap-and-tax) proposals. Behind the rhetoric lie new drilling bans and leasing delays; soon to follow are burdensome new environmental regulations.  Instead of “drill, baby, drill,” the more you look into this the more you realize it’s “stall, baby, stall.”
...
I’ve got to call it like I see it: The administration’s sudden interest in offshore drilling is little more than political posturing designed to gain support for job-killing energy legislation soon to come down the pike.  I’m confident that GOP senators will not take the bait.

Christ, I’m a realist. Our societies are addicted to oil. I use less than most, but still way more than my fair share globally, so I’m not smug.

I believe you folks use 25% of the world’s production. Even now we’ve started to address the Bush II legacy and take very belated measures to counter that and the associated climate change that the Bush regime worked so hard to suppress and deny, we’re still going to need a vast amount of oil in the foreseeable future.

But I think it’s obvious we don’t—at least yet—have the technology to extract it with safety from environments that have more in common with an alien planet than the more familiar parts of our own. It’ll never be 100% safe, for sure, but we’ve got a lot of catching up to do, and no doubt a lot of sacrificing as well in the mean time.

Denying facts and portraying opponents’ strengths as weaknesses is a tried and true wingnut political tactic. (War hero John Kerry, meet Swift Boat Veterans for AWOL Bush!) But still, the cheek involved here is pretty breath-taking.

Drill here! Drill now! Drill, baby, drill! Does she really think we’re gonna forget that shit?

Was Twitter invented solely so famous vacuum-skulls like her could write two-sentence op-eds without paying someone to pad it out to six paragraphs and apply correct spacing and punctuation?

I’ve been using Extreme Greenies with my cats for years, and have been quite pleased by how well they control tartar buildup.

Vic, it’s not clear if Twitter was DESIGNED to be a right-wing nutjob cesspool, or if that’s just a consequence of its structural characteristics.  The limit of 140 characters lends itself to easy lies and bumper sticker slogans, not argumentation and debate.

It brings to mind Pauline Kael’s comment about the then-new Princess telephone, that it appeared to be designed for teenagers to shout advertising slogans at each other.

Drill here! Drill now! Drill, baby, drill! Does she really think we’re gonna forget that shit?

She doesn’t care because, you know, the lamestream media took her out of context, made it up (despite the existence of video), misinterpreted, etc.

I also cannot stand her condescending attitude; what a nasty piece of work.

So, slightly OT but still about Palin, she creates the big controversy about pervy Joe McGinniss renting the house next to her then she tells this to NBC

“Referring to McGinniss, she tells NBC News, ‘He has a right to pursue his subject, I suppose, and certainly has a right to live wherever he wants, but my family also has a right to expect privacy and hopefully enjoy peace this summer. The media sensationalizes the recent McGinniss tactic so the public will tune in to whatever the latest episode is.’

The *media* didn’t sensationalize the McGinniss story, she did!

@ marindenver

I have to laugh at myself.  I initially thought she’d actually talked to someone at NBC.  But, silly me, of course she had a statement typed up and sent in.

Elisabeth, TALKING to someone at NBC might mean having to answer unscripted *questions* which are all “GOTCHA” questions (like, “what newspapers do you read?”).  No way she’s letting her guard down like that!!
