Keeping it simple

Remember Rumproast favorite Vastleft? No? See here. Anyhoo, he produces a highly amusing cartoon series, a recent edition of which was a big hit in certain circles.

Today, Jonathan Bernstein over at Salon provided a detailed explanation of what’s wrong-headed about Vastleft’s doodle. Bernstein used a lot of words. I’ll keep it simple:

That is all.

RUNS SILLY AROUND BLOG

Here’s to old DH Lawrence - Indians!!

I’m new here. Who was Kevin K?

(I wish I could go back in time and tell me about this blog)

I remember Kevin K from such hits as “Hillary Rapper Even Worse Now” and “Lambert Loves Bernie,” but I have to ask a related noob question—has anyone ever seen vastleft and Hillbuzz in the same room?

Kevin K is a fictional character from an off-Broadway play, Enter the BugFucker.  The narrative is set in the Institute for Advanced Complaining* where Kevin K tries to battle the forces of know-it-allism. An organization called PUMA (obviously a rip-off of KAOS from Get Smart) provides comic relief when they try, but are unable to order a pizza for delivery.

Also.

Never has there been artwork so lacking with script so banal and unfunny. I’ve been thinking about how to spoof Vast’s “cartoons.” But, and here’s the problem: to do that I’d have to acknowledge that they exist. Not sure I want to go there.

That said, the broken eggs were the right touch. I wish I"d thought of that.

* some attribute the phrase “Institute for Advanced Complaining” to a certain college professor noted for his use of irony and multiple accent marks in his name. That theory is out there.

I’ve been thinking about how to spoof Vast’s “cartoons.”

I took a shot at it

@ Jewish Steel:

Who was Kevin K?

The founder of this here blog who left to search for sanity and became a sort of mythical Captain Walker figure to we Children of the Crack of the Earth.

@ Strange:

That said, the broken eggs were the right touch.

As you know, fresh ingredients are never far from my mind.

@ The Farmer: Heh! Well played!

You can’t make a lame joke without breaking a few eggs.

Thanks all!

Any blog worth its electrons should have a robust creation myth. And some off Broadway experience.

Betty, I think you meant to aim this at AltHippo.

I always hated that Kevin K. dude. He never returned my emails, I didn’t give a shit about his cats, and his taste in music sucked. If I saw one more upside-down Botswana guitar video I was going to start randomly punching strangers in the throat.

What Kevin K. said about Kevin K.  Also too, people who stop blogging are wankers.

I love upside down Botswana guitar!

I’m going to re-tune right now, dammit!

He: “On hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the Brooklynite with the red roses?”

She: “Will he offer me his fist?”

He: “Yes.”

Yeah, well, if you see that Kevin K. guy again, tell him I occasionally go back into the archives and read his stuff, and I laugh my ass off just about every time.  So it’s a good thing he put a stop to THAT!

But if he left blogging in large part because of the absurdly toxic nature of political discourse at that time, tell him it’s all better now upside-down Botswana guitar RAWKS!

I heard he got out of blogging because Obama took his penis.

Apologies to Kevin. We’ve been so remiss in his absence.

vastleft bugfucker

Thanks, meepmeep. But if you read some of the comments from the PUMA brain trust, Betty is my sock puppet so I’ve been posting all along.

Ah, much better than my damn Group Doueh cover band. Too many scales!

Kev K, if Betty is your sock puppet then you’ve developed a back story above and beyond any possible need, especially the artwork that illustrated the Attack of the Cuban Tree Frogs on Trash Day.
