Lady Lynn Forester de Laughingstock

Yesterday was not a good day for our ol’ non-elitist pal Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild. Pretty much every media person who was forced to cover the non-story about Lady Lynn throwing her support to John McCain had their irony meters turned on high. Campbell Brown, who has been really good as of late (and, Dan Senor or not, I love that button nose!), heaped buckets of condescension all over the Baroness and later in the evening Rachel Maddow firmly adhered guffaws to the whole ridiculous situation.  You can watch both eviscerations below…

LOL, I saw Rachel’s piece last night, but I hadn’t seen the Campbell Brown interview with Lady Lynn. CB’s expression of disbelief and bemusement was priceless! I think the idea of how absurd she appears even got under Lady Lynn’s tiara.

What’s your take on Rachel’s point about bringing up the rape kits and latest reason for the firing of the public safety officer? I hope Obama (or a 527) does go there. I believe the reason Palin charged for the rape kits is because they contained “emergency contraception,” which a holy roller like her would equate with abortion. I also think she would have been much better off saying she did advocate the trooper’s firing and she did it because he’s a psycho rather than making up reasons that look much worse.

You can take the ignorant redneck out of Jersey…sheesh! Can someone revoke that lady’s passport the next time she jet sets to London?

Anyone want to bet $5 that Lynn wants to call Obama “uppity” or worse but can’t?

I think someone definitely has to bring it up, just don’t think that it should be Obama or Biden. I didn’t agree with the post-Palin meme that everyone attacking Palin’s record had to be female, but pertaining to this issue I think that’s true.  Let McCaskill, who’s been really fearless lately, or Wasserman-Schultz, who is making me feel like a complete tool for everything I wrote about her (and her hair) in the past, start pushing that out there.  Or 527s.  Or NOW.

Yeah, McCaskill has been on fire lately. I also feel bad about my past potshots at Wasserman Schultz (and her eyeshadow). I still think it sucks that she won’t campaign against the GOP tools in adjoining districts because they’re her pals. But she has been a great Obama surrogate here lately.

I believe the reason Palin charged for the rape kits is because they contained “emergency contraception,” which a holy roller like her would equate with abortion.

I agree with the theory, but I think we’re better off not mentioning that part.  There are plenty of women who are seriously anti-choice and (I’m a man, so I can only guess) they might find denying EC a mitigating factor in that policy.  I think the ‘punish the victim’ practice of charging to collect evidence of sexual assault/rape may have more of an impact on women, across the board.

That’s cold and calculating and creepy, I know - then again, so is Sarah Palin, imo.

Oh my dear god, I had to pause the Campbell interview about eleventy times because I was laughing so damned hard.

Now I’m writing my own lil’ piece about it.

You may be right, Ripley—there are plenty of anti-choice women. I don’t have any special insight into the issue despite being a chick, but my sense is that most women—even those who are queasy about Roe vs. Wade, would find it extreme to classify the “morning after” pill for rape victims as an abortion.

At any rate, I hope the issue gains enough national traction that Palin has to address it. It’s just unbelievable how they’re getting away with keeping her under wraps for so long. Jesus God, the woman could technically be our president (god forbid) by January if McCain wins (god forbid) and croaks right after his inaugural address. And for most people, she’s a moose-hunting blank slate. The way this is being handled is unworthy of a democracy.

Upon hearing the Lady de Rothschild pronounce Obama an elitist, the producers of The Daily Show unanimously to cancel the show, effective immediately.

“We give up,” said head writer Steve Bodow. “Reality, we bow to your far superior satirical talents. You win.”

Goddamn that Adlai Stevenson! I never trusted him!

Actually, Betty, I should clarify what I wrote.  I think we should focus on the “charge the victim” meme, but not ignore the EC theory.  Maybe that lends itself to a red/blue state targeting tactic; I’m not sure exactly how you’d put it into practice.

It just seems to me that charging the victim might have a greater universal disgust factor.  Then again, if I had any insight into what women think or campaigning, I’d… well, I’d be very surprised, I guess.  heh!

I think that charging the victim has a completely universal disgust factor.  And Betty is probably right on about the real issue for Palin being the emergency contraception included.  But I think it will come up now that the 527’s are in the picture.  All the major women’s groups have endorsed Obama along with Planned Parenthood.  I don’t doubt we’ll be hearing about it - this topic is a natural for them.  Obama needs to go on doing just what he is - slamming McCain on the economy, on his lies, and everything else.  He was fantastic in Nevada yesterday and I think that’s where his focus should be.

Lady Lynn is pissed off because she can’t call Obama whenever she pleases.  Lady Lynn is pissed off because she won’t be guaranteed an ambassadorship in an Obama administration.

Lady Lynn is pissed because Obama’s not running a campaign that is normally manipulated by rich aristocrats.  And that’s fine by me.

These ultra-wealthy elitists can kiss my royal Polish ass, and fuck off on the same gilded horse they rode in on.

Unless you’re hearing it from an independent 527, you’ll hear about the rape kits at the beginning of Oct. if at all. And you won’t hear it tied to EC - that knocks the law-and-order issue into the background.

Raising the EC issue only solidifies what’s already pretty fucking solid: Pro-Choicers are already primed to vote Democratic. Framing the issue as “Palin further victimizing victims” actually reaches across party lines.

So when? This election seems to be working on ten-day controversies-and-celebrity cycles. The issue is too good to unleash this early - McPalin will be able to let some of this vile taint fade if it’s sprung in MSM ads right now.

Not that Obama/Biden can wait til the very end - that would stink of desperation. You wouldn’t want the accusation of “politicizing rape” to be a live issue on Election Day.

If it doesn’t pop up, you can assume that Obama is keenly aware of that last point AND that he feels Palin is no longer a vote magnet. The mind-blowing accusation that she hates rape victims could actually make her MORE sympathetic. It would certainly put her back in the spotlight.

So we’ll have to wait - you might see the ads in a couple of weeks. They don’t call it “an OCTOBER surprise” for nothing.

There’s a funny comment on this Huffington Post post:

In related news, the Obama campaign suffered another devastating loss when Eunice “Lovey” Wentworth Howell, wife of fabulously rich Thurston Howell, III, announced that she was switching her allegiance to John McCain. The former Hillary Clinton supporter said it all came down to ambassadorships. “Hillary said that thanks to my millions of dollars in donations to her campaign, she would appoint me to be ambassador to one of those quaint little European countries. Obama said I’d be lucky to get appointed ambassador to Gilligan’s Island. That uppity . . .Wait, I didn’t mean that. We’re supposed to say that elitist, right?”

It definitely should be a woman Betty, but I would feel more comfortable with Paul Begala, he’s been ON FIRE as of late…“Clooney, Clooney, Clooney!!!”

Please tell Debbie Wasserman-Schultz to Stay Home…her heart is not in it.  Paul is really earning his upcoming cabinet position…

I think this guy has the most appropriate angle on what’s going on here.

She really held a press conference?  What kind of person holds a press conference to tell the world who they are voting for?  Perhaps a self-important, billionaire elitist?

By the way does she have dual citizenship and how many homes do her and Sir de Rothchild own?

Smug, condescending, pompous bitch (de Rothschild, I mean)

Rachel is hot: damned hot.

The endorsement by Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild will be among McCain’s most valued.  Here’s why.

Re: The non-elite Rothschild.

Is that what an Ambien fugue looks like?
