LeRoi Moore Gives Up His Ghost
Earlier I had written about what a great job Jeff Coffin of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones was doing filling in on sax for DMB’s LeRoi Moore. Roi was injured in a June 30th ATV accident on his farm in Charlottesville. After being readmitted to the hospital, then released again, LeRoi died unexpectedly on August 19th. He was 46 years old and engaged to be married. Below the break are two beautiful tributes to LeRoi.
Leroi Moore Tribute Montage
This next video is a photo montage of LeRoi set to the audio of Long Black Veil being played by the band. I first noticed this song when Mick Jagger covered it with the Chieftains in the mid 1990s. Dave Matthews Band has covered Long Black Veil live 89 times, but the whole band had not played it since 2003. It was with great surprise that they did it as an encore on June 6th of this year. I was lucky enough to be at that concert in Chicago. That night was the last time LeRoi Moore would play the song.
RIP- Tribute to LeRoi Moore of DMB
(NOTE: The version above was played in 2002, at The Gorge in Washington state, night three.)
