Mike Huckabee’s Mushy Middle

From AP:

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee warned Republicans Wednesday against moving to the “mushy middle,” arguing that only clearly stated conservative policies can bring the party back to power. [...]

Some argue that Republicans have lost Congress and the White House because they’ve turned the party over to social and religious conservatives, driving away moderates and independents. Huckabee made precisely the opposite argument.

“It’s when they move to the mushy middle and get squishy that they get beat,” he said.

I’ve tried coming up with something snarky to write after that but I think it’s best to just let it hang there…

*snort*

Beat the…mushy…they beat the squishy uh…

Yeah, Kevin’s right.

Yeah, Kevin’s right.

I was trying to come up with a few “big tent party” jokes, but I guess it’s self-evident that they’re completely giving up that concept.

This isn’t precisely spot-on, but Huckabee has moved me to designate the GOP’s slow, sustained, teasingly-not-quite-total-yet-achingly-close, maddeningly drawn-out, grinding, groaning build-up to its inevitable, wave-crashing, toe-curling, Rebel-yelling collapse into stupor, exhaustion and flaccid repose as “Tantric Fail.”

I’m just saying…

oh good lord, Huckabee has a radio spot called the “Huckabee Report” and it’s achingly stupid most of the time.  yeah, I end up hearing it a lot - I have the last car on the planet with neither a CD or even a cassette player, and I’ve become the tiniest bit addicted to right wing talk radio, and that’s where it airs, of course.  it’s appalling but strangely compelling.  Huckabee tries for clever in his report and mostly fails.  every so often he’s ok - one that comes to mind is he talked about christian ministers who ignore the signs of battered women because they don’t want to offend the men.  he said it was wrong - well, duh - but still it was surprising to hear him say it.  other than that he mostly says really stupid right wing stuff.  I don’t heart Huckabee.

You’re nuts.

I’ve become the tiniest bit addicted to right wing talk radio

I went through a spell of that many moons ago. I was hooked on the horror that was a local wingnut talk show hosted by Jay Diamond.  I remember after the Oklahoma bombing he was warning people to be on the lookout for unfamiliar brown swarthy people in their neighborhoods and then, ya know…

After him I’ve tried to listen to Rush and Hannity but it’s just too much.  I can’t endure more than a few minutes of prime time Fox News either, even for “educational” purposes.

I live in the south so we have both local and national wingnuts, all day long on bunches of stations, both AM and FM.  we also have a lot of religious stations.  some feature shouting preachers and some play christian rock.

my next big purchase really ought to be a CD player for my car.

In the “blind pig finding an acorn” (oops, did I say “ACORN?!?!?”) category, I do have to remember that Huckabee was unexpectedly gracious and wise in his defense of Jeremiah Wright, at least at one point.

The sad thing is, Huckabee’s probably the best they’ve got.

The sad thing is, Huckabee’s probably the best they’ve got.

Pretty much true and he isn’t anywhere near as, ahem, likable as he was during the primaries. I guess I missed the transformation when I wasn’t looking.  Was I hallucinating or am I correct in thinking he wasn’t the full-blown wingnut he is now back then?

You’re hallucinating.  He was.

“‘It’s when they move to the mushy middle and get squishy that they get beat,’ he said.”

If it stays squishy and mushy when you beat it then you’re doing it wrong.

Shorter Mike Huckabee: The GOP needs to borrow some Viagra from Rush.
