Mike Pence Lies Through his Teeth About Planned Parenthood Services

Republican Congressman and serial liar Mike Pence has published an article in “The National Review” which he labels “the truth about the debate over defunding Planned Parenthood”.  If “truth” equals “bald faced lies” then he’s surely told the truth.  Pence, as he tells us, was the author of the Pence Amendment which called for defunding of the organization.  He then states:

In response, Planned Parenthood used its vast resources to launch slick Madison Avenue television ads portraying the group — the nation’s largest abortion provider — as an altruistic organization that provides health-care services to the poor and has only an incidental interest in abortion.

Pence then tries to convince us that abortion services vastly outweigh all other services provided by Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood clinics focus mainly on abortion — and because money is fungible, there is no way to fund the useful services without freeing up money for the organization to spend on abortion. In 2009, the group made only 977 adoption referrals and cared for only 7,021 prenatal clients, but performed a record 332,278 abortions. In other words, a pregnant woman entering a Planned Parenthood clinic was 42 times more likely to have an abortion than to either receive prenatal care or be referred for adoption.

Clearly Pence extracted his statistics from Planned Parenthood’s annual report available on their website (he also quotes revenues sourced from the report later in the article).  If that’s true one wonders how he missed the pie chart on page 6 clearly showing that abortion services comprise all of 3% of total services provided by Planned Parenthood.  The actual breakdown is 35% contraceptive services, 34% STD testing, 17% cancer screening and prevention, 10% other women’s health services, 3% abortion services and 1% other services.

So stating that “Planned Parenthood clinics focus mainly on abortion” is not just misleading, it is downright false and presumably a deliberate lie.

But the real agenda here is not about limiting abortions.  It’s about punishing Planned Parenthood.

Despite efforts to suggest otherwise, the Pence Amendment does not reduce funding for cancer screenings or eliminate one dime of funding for other important health services to women; the money that does not go to Planned Parenthood as a result of the Pence Amendment will go to other organizations that provide these services. If the Pence Amendment becomes law, thousands of women’s health centers, clinics, and hospitals will still provide assistance to low-income families and women. The Pence Amendment would simply deny any and all federal funding to Planned Parenthood.

So, ummmm, do any of these other thousands of women’s health centers, clinics, and hospitals provide abortion services?  I’m kinda, sorta betting that a great many of them do.  What they don’t do (I’m guessing) is proudly announce that their mission is to empower women to take charge of their reproductive choices and health.  I’m also suspecting here that the contraceptive services offered chap Mike’s ass just as much as the abortion services.  Can’t stand in the way of God insertin’ fetuses into those wombs, no sir!

So, in addition to providing blatantly misleading statistics to “prove” that all Planned Parenthood is about anyway is mass abortions, he provides various unsourced statements that Planned Parenthood is not concerned about their patients’ health or safety, misleads them and spends it’s ginormous profits trying to ensnare wealthy women to come in for abortions by the dozen.  I’m thinking they even have lucky dozen specials on Thursdays!  Num, num, num, loves me them abortions!!

Sorry Mike.  Huge, massive, total, complete FAIL.

Sorry - the wine spurted out my nose when I read the phrase ‘Planned Parenthood used its vast resources…’ - knowing women working for PP who have NO recollections of VAST lakes of PP funding - unlike the Koch bros., and 3-wife-Gingrich’s money geysers, ‘n /Snooki’s SnoPACs, etc. At the risk of repetition

i.e. ‘The only moral abortion is my abortion’

Now back to questionable rail technology…

I don’t know who he’s aiming to reach with his “justification.” As far as his base is concerned, Planned Parenthood = “baby murder mill”...so all of this is meaningless to them.

I’d suspect he’s trying to convince some hypothetically-sane segment of conservative voters that he’s not really an extremist nutcase, but he’s already announced he’s not running for President.

Could he be conflating contraceptives with abortion? Because I think that’s the general direction the rightwing extremists are headed in. To paint all abortion as an abomination and to make contraceptives nearly as vile. Their ultimate goal is to make mainstream “discussion” accept these points as a given, I would say.

The way they vilify abortion, for instance, you’d never know it was a legal procedure.

They just love to move the goalposts their way, all the while decrying the “extremism” on the left.

“You lie, Mike Pence.”  “You lie, John Boehner.”  “You lie, Eric Cantor.”

This is really the only thing that ever needs to be said to the Republicans.  It’s frustrating because all the facts and data are there—they simply do not care.

The other phrase that needs to be repeated over and over: “Where are the jobs?”  Followed with a quick, “They’re not in my uterus, so get the Hades out of it!”

Pence is CORRECT! It, Planned Parenthood, is an organ for the (socialist/Marxist)Democrat Party. They have been caught on numerous occasions offering abortions to minors and offering to coach on how to get around the law.

If a woman walking to an abortion center is mugged and the baby killed in that assault, the perpatrator is charged with homicide. In other words the state recognized that unborn child as a citizen. Yet if the mother went to the clinic to have it vivisected that would be legal. How does the mother determine the citizenship status by virtue of contracting a licensed pratitioner of vivisections?

Wow, clarke. You’re fucked up, dude.

Who do I have to blow to get better trolls in this place?

Seriously.  Take this troll back.  It is defective.  Want.  Better.  TROLL!

But if the fetus were to shoot the mugger with an illegal handgun, it’s the mother who would go to jail. How is that fair?

If the fetus is gay, would that also be a hate crime?

Hell, if the fetus is gay, clarke will help her abort it.

I think forced sterilization of all Republican men would be an excellent start to reducing the need for abortions.

Awww but clarkie is such a CUTE l’il troll.  Can’t I keep him?  Srsly?

@zhak - no question.  Living in Colorado, home of Focus on the Family and other vile, radical right wing *Christian* organizations, the phrase “deliberate childlessness” combined with “eradication of” comes up in letters to the editor and other forums.  No other interpretation except outlawing of contraception occurs to me.

@asiangrrl - lying seems to be almost reflexive with Republicans these days.  I believe that principled Repubs did exist at one point but if they’re still around it’s not obvious.

So Clarke, care to explain why so many of those good “Christian Pro-Lifers” take their daughters and themselves to Planned Parenthood to take care of their oopsies? Because as a former PP employee (where I made a princely $14,000 per annum), I can tell you it was because these deluded hypocrites knew that they would receive excellent care - not just physical, but emotional support as well, without judgment. Even when we knew they’d be out the next week screaming “Abortion Is Murder!” at the doctors who had helped them out of their jam.

But I guess that was okay, because they were GOOD people who had just made some lil itsy bitsy mistake—not like those other women who are all whores who use abortion as birth control and so they can look hot in their bikinis for spring break.

In other words: Blow me.

But if the fetus were to shoot the mugger with an illegal handgun, it’s the mother who would go to jail. How is that fair?

Contortionists like clark are why good vivisectionists are so hard to find these days.

Poor troll, though. Couldn’t quite mash the anchor baby fear peg into the abortion hole, could he?
