“My Old Kentucky Home” Derby Day Open Thread (w/ Videos)

I’m heading out to a Kentucky Derby party in a few.  Here are a handful of random (and mostly short) video performances of the song “My Old Kentucky Home,” ranging from interesting to cute to weird, to celebrate this festive day.  Consider this an open thread to chat about the Derby or whatever else you want.  Cheers.

No real interest in the Kentucky Derby except for Hunter S. Thompson’s “The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved” and his later account of spending Derby Day at the Georgia Governor’s mansion with then-Governor Jimmy Carter. Classic stuff.

I like it when unheralded underdogs win.  That was a nice race.

OMG, what a great race that was!  Not to mention the great backstory of the rodeo rider turned trainer with the broken leg hauling the trailer across country after they scraped together the money to enter their long shot horse in the most famous race in the world.  And he WON with 50-1 odds and won decisively.  So much for all those super rich owners with their million dollar ponies, entourages and trophy wives hanging on their arms. Definitely a feel-good story that we all need these days!

It’s like Seabiscuit all over again. Or something… I’m sure there are similarities.

They were both horses right?

They were both horses right?

LOL, yes they were except that Seabiscuit’s owner was the multi-millionaire founder of Buick and his jockey pretty much died broken and in poverty but otherwise EXACTLY THE SAME!!! YAY!

But Seabiscuit was a good horse story.
