Very good and to the point. The Uptake interviewed the woman who called Obama an Arab. She’s the ultimate low-info voter (read: dumb as dirt) and a McCain volunteer.
I think McCain’s finally getting worried about his legacy. Whether or not he was at all sincere about defending Obama is debatable, but it’s fairly obvious this “Obama is a terrorist” crap is backfiring on him outside of the knuckle-dragging base ... horribly. Chris caught a little of Palin’s speech this morning and apparently she’s dialing it back, too. It’s all about the love, baby.
Holy shit, could I be witnessing, for the first time in my adult life, the complete and utter failure of negative campaigning?
Makes you wonder what happened. Although I did read that McCain is very impatient - if something doesn’t get results for him right away he drops it. He thought this crapola might get him a few points up in the polls, saw it was going the other way, and decided to change tactics. Considering he was doing it to begin with makes it hard for me to believe it was out of any sort of sense that it was morally wrong to incite crowds into lynching mobs. If he is worried about his legacy, it’s probably because people have pointed that problem out to him - I’m not sure if he’s smart enough to think that far ahead on his own!
It’s tough for McCain being the smartest guy in the room.
Campaign team - stoopid. Running mate - stoopid. Voters - stoopid.
It’s why he’s mad all the time.
Just listened to the longer video on pop’s post before this one - Laurence O’Donnell said the thing about McCain getting impatient - probably who I heard it from earlier. Also Steve Benen had this interesting post about McCain becoming poison for other Republican candidates. Wonder how much that contributed to the change in tactics.
That longer video is very interesting for O’Donnell’s comments about how McCain is putting himself between a rock and a hard place because the wing-nuts are going to go all wingy if he STOPS the very negative campaigning and he may lose that element of his base. To which I can only say “BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!”
Holy shit, could I be witnessing, for the first time in my adult life, the complete and utter failure of negative campaigning?
We can only hope so. Only hope so.

I think so, too. Everything is digitized and can then be deconstructed. So, ultimately, the liars and spin doctors, and negative campaigns, where the negatives are built on lies (important distinction), should all come tumbling down.
If McCain were smart, he’d demand a refund from his Campaign Mgt. team.
Speaking of stupid followers, this incident reminds of something I heard on Unreliable Sources one night. (I think that’s the name of the show - I forget the hosts’s name, at the moment.)
An older woman called in and said, to paraphrase, “I don’t trust someone who was named after Saddam Hussein.” Seriously.
That’s the McCain/Palin base, now - the only demographic that’s listening to them anymore, and the only people the campaign can count on.
