My Treasured Denver Memories, Day 1

Two years ago today, I was too preoccupied with countering the pathetic thrusts and parries of my online enemies to focus on the irresistible unfoldment of pageantous Destiny that was the 2008 Democratic Convention in Denver.

Despite the subsequent massive upgrades to my blogospheric access and the mysterious bags of swag that appear on my front stoop every time I post an Approved Meme on Rumproast, I will always regret that I was unable to be fully immersed and “in the moment” that week when History washed out of our TV screens on an EMP of Hope & Change. Yet, like Victory itself, the Internet Memory is immortal—and we can, in brief flashes at least, relive the highlights of those Four Magical Days That Changed Everything. Yes we can.

I just love her.

Hey!  This isn’t the Whitey tape!!

{Stomps off disappointed & angry}

She’s a fighter and so, so dreamy.  Nice fuck you to the PUMAs by Craig with the orange tie too.

You know what was the worst thing about fucking with all those people at the caucuses in TX, NV, etc?  The thing I regret the most?  That I could only disenfranchise each of them once.

Get the hell outta the way Betty, she’s mine and I love her a lot more than you! Cracker!

You know when I think about it I spent the better part of August onwards crying.  I was lucky enough to see Michelle speak here in Jacksonville and just seeing her walk onto the stage I cried buckets (me mum did too!)  After the election in November I swear I spent at least a week crying, and every Youtube I watched set me off again.  The vids of the election night celebrations just sent me into a snotty nosed tear fest.  I can see I am going to have to stock up on tissues if this is going to be an ongoing series.

Strange - I have goosebumps.  I was fortunate enough to have witnessed those 4 great days.  I volunteered and so I was in the heart of it.  And I mean HEART!  The beauty of that time was that it wasn’t a hate fest.  EVERYONE was upbeat and happy - hopeful if you will - and that trumped any shit talking about Repubs. No one wanted to sully the vibe.  The city had the most amazing energy.  I was their live for all of the speeches and for the big finale.  It was incredible. Thanks for the memories!

I think my favorite response to the Whitey Tape nonsense came from Michelle herself—“that’s something George Jefferson would say.” Which is one way I knew it was bullshit. It’s a stupid white person’s idea of what an angry black woman would say.

Not that George Jefferson was a woman. Even if “Weezy” did wear the pants in the family. ;)

I live just outside of Denver, and yet I let myself get talked into going to the Nader rally, which I did for giggles; those anarchist kids (1) all dress alike, and (2) are so fuckling serious.  Not a lot of fun.

However, as I was leaving the auditorium and heading west I was stunned by one of the best sunsets I’d seen in years.  We get a lot of good ones, but this one was the whole sky, from horizon to over my head.  So, to all you out of town visitors, your’re welcome!

We left the pathetic “Rise” rally (who was it again that put that sad thing on?) specifically so we could get home and hear Michelle speak.  She was terrific.  And I remember how adorable the kids were when Daddy came on the video screen afterwards.

I lurve her but if she’d step aside I’d move into the White House.  In a heartbeat.
