NFL playoff predictions?

At the risk of replicating NRO’s epic football prediction flame-out, I’m going to go out on a limb and pick today’s winners. (Unlike NRO’s Miller, I can only be wrong about two games.)

AFC Championship Game

New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts

Winner: Colts, 24-21

Sorry, Jets fans. You’ve had a great run with promising young hottie Sanchez, and you’ve got a shut-down corner in Darrelle Revis. But not even Revis can cover both Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark. Plus, there’s Peyton Manning. I’ll be rooting for the J-E-T-S Jets, but I think Indy will win it.

NFC Championship Game

Minnesota Vikings at New Orleans Saints

Winner: Saints, 30-27

I’m rooting for the Saints, but it’s tough to pick this game—there are so many intangibles. I give the Saints a slight edge because my old Gator hero Percy Harvin, the Vikings’ Rookie of the Year, has been questionable all week due to migraines, which also plagued him at Florida. He’s like a racehorse, that dude. When he’s on, he’s ON. But he’s fragile. And the Vikes need him at 100% to prevail against a great Saints team.

What say you, Roastafarians?

I’m a HUGE Jets fan who picked the Chargers in the post-season football pool, so what do I know? ;-) I’m just praying it’s not an Indy blowout. I also think the Jets could go all the way to the Super Bowl. That’s what it’s like being a Jets fan: Hope for the best, expect the worst.

As for Vikings-Saints, I really don’t know how to call this one. Both teams have had great seasons. Both teams have amazing talent. I think I have to give the edge to NO because of home court advantage, though I would not put big money on it.

The one thing I do know for sure, it’s going to be a long, cold February and March without football or baseball. :-(

What say you, Roastafarians?

I say, BAN HER FOR PICKING AGAINST THE JETS, KEVIN and I say this is worth watching over and over again.  Not just because it’s the most awesomest TD run EVAH but because it’s instructive.  Note # 31 Cromartie of San Diego declining to take a shot at Greene when he had a chance and instead chasing him down the field so he can take a cheap shot in the end zone.  Note also, Eric Weddle getting steamrolled.  Earlier in the game he might have been able to slow him down at least but the Jets wore the SD defense out.  So I say the Colts will have a 17-10 lead going into the 4th quarter but the Jets will wear them down too and score two late long rushing TDs FT24-17W.

Vikes over the Saints 24-21 with Favre and Rice carrying me into the Super Bowl of my fantasy league.

Sorry, Jets fans!

Who nym-jacked me up there?

Bah.  It was a great season so I’m not sad.  Manning is just amazing.  But jeez, Coleman was just terrible.  He couldn’t cover Collie for shit.  Who new Strickland getting hut would be so huge.

Betty will never be posting here again for jinxing the Jets (just joking).

It was a great season so I’m not sad.

Exactly.  They’re young and they’re going to be even better next year, so it was a fun run. Sanchez and Greene are both rookies, and Rex Ryan is a great coach and a helluva guy (w/ a great staff). Unless some terrible things happen in the off-season, next year should be even better than this one.

So much for the New Jersey Jets. Go Saints!

I farking hate Brett with a passion.

Well baked, Betty.

Well, I was 100% more correct than the NRO hack—quelle surprise! I thought the Jets would make a better showing, but really, it was a closer game than the final score indicates. They’ll be back next year.

So, who wins the Super Bowl? I sure am rooting for the Saints, but I wouldn’t bet the farm on it.

Saints’ amazing run ends Feb 7. Too much Indy firepower and discipline for them to overcome.
