Not smarter than a 5th grader

It’s not just newspapers—“all of them” is Sarah Palin’s default answer when flummoxed by any simple question:

Even deluded nutbag Glenn Beck—Glenn Beck!!—saw through Palin’s “world peace” pageant-speak fall-back.

I’m considering a small campaign contribution to whatever lowlife teabagging mouth-breather crawls out of the woodwork to primary John McCain from the right.

It seems unfair to blame Palin—she can’t help being a booger-eating moron. But John “Country First” McCain, in possibly the most cynical political act in modern American history, deliberately thrust this drooling idiot onto the national stage. He should pay with his political career.

Ack! While I understand your anger at McCain, the man who’s looking to primary him, J.D. Hayworth is so far beyond horrible, stupid, and nuts that I would urge you to rethink giving him any aid.
I’m in AZ, and I truly hate St. Sleazy McCain. But J.D. (who used to be my congressman, prior to redistricting in 2000) is dumber than an eggplant, a bloviating, corrupt, christofascist.
Worse, should he win the primary, he’s almost assured of winning the general election, as there’s no serious dem running (so far).
If you think it couldn’t get worse than McCain, you haven’t met J.D.

Agreed, Betty. Any of his claims about “experience” went out the window when he put this moron on the ticket. As Obama said about the deal that Edwards proposed (at least according to Game Change fwiw, maybe not much) to make Edwards AG in return for his endorsement - “If I took that deal, I shouldn’t be president.” McCain did take that deal, over his preferences for Lieberman and Ridge, and in the process showed that his “maverick” credentials are all for show (which some of us already knew) and that he would meekly submit to the GOP powerbrokers and put Little Miss Moron on the ticket to appease the “base.” (And to appease those fictional 18 million angry Hillary fans who wouldn’t vote for Obama—thanks for your part in stirring that rumor and helping Obama win, PUMAtards!)

Sorry, pygalgia, but JD, as a freshman Senator, can’t do as much damage as McCain.

Besides, the Village would love it because then McCain would be free to spend his every waking moment on the teevee machine to play Bipartisan Unicorn Mad-Libs with them.

Worse, should he win the primary, he’s almost assured of winning the general election, as there’s no serious dem running (so far).

Good point, Pygalgia. If there’s any chance the teabagger could actually win, I guess AZ and the rest of us are better off with McCain, even though he’s demonstrated himself to be a thoroughly cynical, self-interested piece of lying shit.

That said, I hope at least in his heart of hearts McCain realizes what a sleazy, dishonorable thing he did. He prides himself on being an uber-patriot. I don’t know whether or not he believes his own hype, but if he does, I hope he at least has the decency to be ashamed.

Christ, I tried watching the whole Beck show, but I just couldn’t do it. Ana Marie Cox summed it up best when she was liveblogging it:

This is really painful. Like a papercut on your brain.

BTW, Nicolle Wallace’s take on when Palin was first picked is somewhat humorous (video).

I’m disappointed Beck didn’t ask her to name the Founding Fathers, or at least one other than George Washington.

From my limited exposure to her first two appearances as an analrapist for Fox News, I’m getting the distinct sense that she’s been instructed/advised to really turn up the “ya betcha” to 11.  She seems to be talkin’ even more folksy and backwater than she did during the campaign.

Seems to me that she’s less interested in being a professional pundit, and more interested in being a professional wrestler.  Fits perfectly with the caricature that Beck has invented.

pygalgia—What in the world is the AZ Democratic Party up to that they can’t find a serious candidate or two to challenge McCain?  There must be somebody in that state willing to step up to the plate.

For all the talk about elite political players being in a Washingtonian bubble, I’m still more than a little floored by the fact that Wallace claims she’d never heard of Palin before she found out Palin had been picked for the VP slot. Did I hear that right? She’d never heard of her?

I had heard about Palin, fer chrissakes! Admittedly, I didn’t realize she was a booger-eating moron who would be an absolute gift for Team Obama; from what little I knew about Palin when McCain made the decision, the pick scared me because I’d heard she was a smart, attractive, rising GOP star. But as utterly wrong as I was, at least I knew the woman’s name!

How could a GOP insider like Wallace have truly not heard of Palin? How could she have been ignorant of how creationism impacts the GOP base? Either she’s a liar or the level of incompetence inside that campaign was staggering. Or both.

Honest to god, this makes me wonder if we shouldn’t scrap this whole democracy thing and choose leaders by lottery or something. Thanks be to merciful god McCain-Palin lost, but the idea that people like Wallace are integral to the electoral process is just plain scary.

Off topic: can you guys send some love and snark to John Cole? He messed up his scapula pretty badly in an ice-and-puppy related accident and is going into surgery next week.

I wonder if Beck is just marking his territory; you know, pissing in the corners of batshit crazy so as not to lose his ratings? There’s gotta be some of that going on, right?

I dunno, I’m looking forward to an ex-porn star, ex-wrestling champ as prez in my lifetime. And frankly, medical care by vending machine just might be a more efficient solution to our problems than what we might see coming out of congress…

As long as it’s got the electrolytes that plants crave!

I seem to remember reading that picking Napolitano was supposed to be a sort of olive branch to McCain, because she was the one AZ Dem who could have seriously challenged him for the Senate if she chose to run. Of course, now that probably wouldn’t happen even if she did leave Homeland Security. Still, as an olive branch, it didn’t do much to bring Grampa McCranky into alignment with anything bipartisan, did it?

Glix and Oblomova:
Yeah, Napolitano was the presumed opposition until she was picked for DHS, possibly as a favor to St. Sleazy. The dems in AZ are in a bit of disarray (as always), which is sad as McCain is the most vulnerable he’s been in decades. AZ is still a fairly red state, but that is slowly changing. I’d love to see rep. Raul Grijalva (big draw with hispanics) run, but all signs are that he plans to remain in the house. Atty. gen. Terry Goddard could beat McCain, but is running for gov. instead. So it’s looking kind of bleak.

I don’t get the animosity towards McPOW for picking Palin. Not only does she make the entire GOP look stupid because they didn’t run like Hell after one look, she’ll continue to rile up the teabaggers and since she’s a huge attention hound it will take three big guys with hooks and a small nuke to get her to go away.

I think we need to keep gramps around as reminder of what GOPers will try to put in the White House if we aren’t vewwwy cahfuwl.

HTP - it is true that I enjoy the GOP discomfiture surrounding this rank embarrassment McCain has unleashed upon them.  I rather thank the old fart on the one hand, but realize we dodged a really big bullet on the other.
