Obama comments on Iranian election

Think he knows something we don’t?

Of course, no one knows for sure how the election will turn out. But Obama probably has some pretty good sources. Would he have made this statement if he thought Ahmadinejad was going to win?

[H/T: Talking Points Memo]

Update: Looks like it’s going to be a nail-biter. Both candidates have declared victory, and the state media declared Ahmadinejad the victor and then walked it back.

He really is the Messiah. Next thing you know, they’ll be opening a Whole Foods in Pyongyang.

It doesn’t matter who’s President, because the Mullahs are really in charge. I heard that from Rush.

Also, if Mousavi wins, the Mullahs will be better able to conceal their hostile scheming behind a false-front of reasonableness. I heard that from Marc Rubin.

Even if the election really constitutes a positive signal from Iran and an opening for actual diplomatic horse-trading, that would be bad because it would make Obama happy. I’m hearing that everywhere.

Heh, yeah, if Mousavi wins, I expect the same people who have been shrieking in alarm and calling for WWIII every time Ahmadinejad opens his stupid yap will suddenly grasp the complexities of Iranian governance and realize that the president there actually has little power.

Betty, you’re absolutely right. Every Middle Eastern regime has its own “Baghdad Bob.”

Sometimes he’s the PR guy, and sometimes he’s the President. But he’s generally not the guy you want to plan your troop deployments around.

It is a great pity that the election was stolen. There will be major ramifications as a result.
