Obama Knows how to Wink, Wink Too
In a videotaped message to the Bi-Partisan Governors Global Climate Summit this morning, President-elect Obama had this to say:
While I won’t be President at the time of your meeting and while the United States has only one President at a time (wink, wink), I’ve asked members of Congress who are attending the conference as observers to report back to me on what they learn there. And once I take office, you can be sure that the United States will once again engage vigorously in these negotiations, and help lead the world toward a new era of global cooperation on climate change.
In addition to U.S. governors, the conference is host to international delegates from 12 countries.
Obama also pledged to “invest $15 billion each year to catalyze private sector efforts to build a clean energy future,” and cit(ed) specific annual targets on emission reductions.”
Isn’t that a nice change from this:
President George Bush signed off with a defiant farewell over his refusal to accept global climate change targets at his last G8 summit. As he prepared to fly out from Japan, he told his fellow leaders: “Goodbye from the world’s biggest polluter.”
Now this is change I can totally believe in.
Update: More change to believe in! Steve Benen is reporting that Eric Holder will mostly likely be Obama’s choice for AG. I was not familiar with him but definitely like everything I am reading. If you have time be sure to read the speech that is linked to in the article. You gotta love everything he says about abuse of executive powers and his positions on torture (hint: He’s not for it.) It’s feeling like a real breath of fresh air is coming in. Makes me happy enough to dance!

there’s a lot of clucking going on about Holder being yet another Clintonite, but I personally have no problem with recycling Clinton personnel as long as they’re competent; competency would be a nice change of pace.

Yeah, uh-huh, that’s just Joe Fucking Lieberman leaning over your shoulder and breathing heavily.
Maybe my cynicism meter is completely wacked out because of personal stuff, but I get the feeling we’re in for more of the same old Washington.
Sure, it’ll have a Democratic party flavor to it, but I aint holding my breath that anyone in the incoming administration does a damn thing about holding the criminals roaming the halls of power accountable, just look at today’s Lieberman vote. When all Howard Dean can do is shuck and jive and give non-sensical reasons for the way the vote went down, well, let’s just say that once in Washington, our elected leaders could give a flying fuck what we think.

I have mixed feelings about Lieberdouche. On the one hand revenge would be sweet. And I don’t doubt if Obama had given him the big thumbs down, it would have been done. But it would also create a lot of drama and endless media speculation about what does Lieberman do now, oh woe, oh my! And can the Dems ever get 60 votes, oh my, oh my, Auntie Em! Chicken Little!! But by saying he’s not worth it, it’s pretty much put Lieberman in the position of being beholden to Obama. It’s really more what a big picture kind of Prez would do, I think.
Not that I know what a big picture Prez would do since I can’t remember if we’ve had one in my lifetime.

Yeah, I feel bad for chiding someone here (bimbo slice?) about getting to riled up about Lieberman a few days ago, but I’ll have to admit wanting to headbutt Holy Joe into a bloody pulp after watching that press conference with him today. I’m gonna still try to maintain my cool and nurture my inner pragmatist like Steve M. and his commenter Ohiobrian:
Obama absolutely always plays the long game, and I’m convinced that’s what he’s doing now. Or at least I’m prepared to extend him some credibility on faith.
But FUUUUUCCCCCCK do I hate Lieberman. I hate him! I hate him! I hate him! Arrrrggggghh!

Karma’s a bitch and it WILL come back and nail Lieberman in some other big fun way. Meanwhile, I’m doing a big happy dance too.

Yeah, I’m still fuming about Lieberdouche getting off scott-free. He didn’t even apologize, not really, the slimy, whinging bastard.
The mister and I were watching Hardball or one of those programs last night, and I was expressing all sorts of blood-thirsty, mean-spirited sentiments about Lieberdouche. The mister pointed out that Obama did promise bipartisanship and unity, etc.
But damn it, I said, can’t that start 1/20/09? It’s not just that Lieberdouche was a traitor, which he was. It’s that he’s been a useless piece of shit in his committee chairmanship. Figgety, figgety fuck, I’m still pissed.
