Obama’s Empty Platitudes
One of the reasons it may be in my best interest to check out from politics for a bit is so that I don’t have to read comments like this for the next few months:
They’re covering their asses; it’s not about Obama
Submitted by Davidson on Sun, 2008-11-09 14:22.His supporters know they went absolutely apeshit during the primaries over nothing but empty platitudes, voting for a “black guy” (think back to OpenLeft’s post), and fueling their Obama “support” with nothing more than overwhelmingly bigoted anti-Clinton hate. So, now that reality has finally hit and their unqualified candidate is president-elect in the midst of an epic clusterfuck, they’re covering their ass. Besides, it’s not as if they truly cared about what he’d do since they (as a whole) aren’t as dependent as other voting blocs (e.g., Bubbas) on a president to get things done.
As far as what Obama will do: I don’t trust him to do anything he promised. I don’t trust his words (It’s amazing how easily he flat-out lies) nor his competence (What the hell has he actually done?).
Democrats finally pick a winning candidate who wisely avoided being overly nuanced (Obama admitted early on that he didn’t want to come off too professorial), created genuine excitement for his candidacy and turned the map wonderfully blue, and this dimwit already has their tiny little knives out only a few days after the election.
It infuriates me and this is why:
Transition advisers to President-elect Barack Obama have compiled a list of about 200 Bush administration actions and executive orders that could be swiftly undone to reverse White House policies on climate change, stem cell research, reproductive rights and other issues, according to congressional Democrats, campaign aides and experts working with the transition team.
A team of four dozen advisers, working for months in virtual solitude, set out to identify regulatory and policy changes Obama could implement soon after his inauguration. The team is now consulting with liberal advocacy groups, Capitol Hill staffers and potential agency chiefs to prioritize those they regard as the most onerous or ideologically offensive, said a top transition official who was not permitted to speak on the record about the inner workings of the transition.
In some instances, Obama would be quickly delivering on promises he made during his two-year campaign, while in others he would be embracing Clinton-era policies upended by President Bush during his eight years in office. [...]
Obama himself has signaled, for example, that he intends to reverse Bush’s controversial limit on federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, a decision that scientists say has restrained research into some of the most promising avenues for defeating a wide array of diseases, such as Parkinson’s.
“Hope” ruled the day on November 4th and now, only a few days later, we’re seeing clear evidence that “change” is coming. What empty fucking platitudes. And as you read that article, be careful about stepping in my fellow Obama supporters’ apeshit. The “black guy” got us all excited and us wide-eyed simpletons couldn’t help flinging it around.
ADDENDUM: I watched my father brutally wither away due to Parkinson’s before he passed on, so funding embryonic stem cell research is pretty huge in my little world.
SOMEWHAT RELATED: Tom Watson, who I sparred with a bit during the primaries and was always a good sport about it, makes a very good case for Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff.
UPDATE: To the twenty-three or so different power players who run PUMA groups, watch out. Thers is markin’ his territory and, oh boy, is he ever PISSY.
