Some Republican members of Congress took to Twitter on Thursday to declare victory after CNN and Fox News had inaccurately reported that the individual mandate had been struck down.

They quickly deleted their “victory” messages, but the Sunlight Foundation’s Politwoops site, which archives deleted Twitter messages of elected officials, found them.

Here is what a half dozen lawmakers had to say when they thought the Supreme Court had ruled against the individual mandate, the centerpiece of the health care overhaul.

• Representative Darrell Issa, Republican of California: RT @repjustinamash: This is a big win for #liberty & the #Constitution.

• Representative Tom Rooney, Republican of Florida – Breaking – #SupremeCourt strikes #individualmandate. Great news for American people, victory for constitution. #Obamacare

• Representative Dennis A. Ross, Republican of Florida – Individual Mandate ruled unconstitutional. Let Freedom Ring.

• Representative Virginia Foxx, Republican of North Carolina – #UNCONSTITUTIONAL: #SCOTUS overturns #Obamacare’s individual insurance #mandate. Developing…

• Representative Howard P. McKeon, Republican of California – Breaking: #Obamacare individual mandate ruled unconstitutional. More to come…

• Representative Aaron Schock, Republican of Illinois – Individual Mandate ruled unconstitutional…still developing….

I assume that plenty of right wing bloggers had their snotty gloating posts all saved up and ready to launch the moment the decision was declared. How delicious that they had to hit Delete.

I read a community board and today the diehard Independent Assholes were outraged, outraged I say! about the decision. One guy was comforted that his favorite Judge Scalia (no, really) had a dissenting vote. They were furious about government taking a hand in mandating healthcare.

fuck ‘em.

Just keep wondering how the rest of the First World views the howling, gnashing, mourning over—for frick’s sake—providing more citizens with more healthcare.

It would be interesting to know who gave the go ahead on those headlines.  FauxNews doesn’t care if they’re accurate or not but CNN might.

I can’t speak for the rest of the First World, but on BBC Radio 4 News they had clips of Obama giving his statesmanlike speech, then some reactions, including a winger ranting about COMMUNISM!!! The concensus in our home was what you’d imagine.

Don’t know about the process on Fox News, but the behind-the-scenes fireworks at CNN are quite well documented.

The use of the tablet/iPad on that graphic is witty and inspired.  I stopped dead when I saw it.  Really really great.
