Pajamas Media is shitting the bed

Roger L. Simon
Roger L. Magoo: Blinded by the Blight

Good riddance.

It took a lot longer than I ever imagined it would, but Pajamas Media is finally taking a tumble.  As Razib notes: “[A] lot of their stuff is 2001-2004 vintage Right-of-Center media commentary, the sell-by date has long passed.” I guess no one told PJM CEO Roger L. Magoo that everything changed after 2005. I know they’re only folding up their off-domain ad network, but it’s not a good sign and their PJTV enterprise, which they’re now focusing all of their efforts on, is, quite literally, a joke (read: Joe the Plumber goes to Israel and, well, pretty much everything else).

The email they sent to their ad network bloggers letting them know they’re pulling the plug is below the fold…

As you know, last September Pajamas Media began a new initiative in Internet television called Pajamas TV. When we started with our RNC coverage from Minneapolis, we noted that we would be in a Beta Phase through the first quarter of 2009. In the last few months we have strengthened the PJTV lineup with shows covering Media Bias, Education Bias, Middle East Update, Sharia and Jihad, Powerline Report, Ask Dr. Helen, Hugh News, Poliwood, Conservatism 2.0, Economy and Finance, National Security, and others.

As the end of the first quarter approaches and we near the production phase of Pajamas TV, we will continue to build our emphasis in this area. As a result we have decided to wind down the Pajamas Media Blogger and advertising network effective March 31, 2009. The PJM portal and the XPressBlogs will continue as is.

Since our ad relationship continues for the time being, you should note that in order to be paid for the 1st quarter of 2009, you must leave the current Pajamas ads up until 12:01AM April 1. We will be sending you information in mid-March on removing the ads. As of April 1, 2009, you will be free to arrange syndication or re-sale deals.

We thank you very much for participating during the formative years of Pajamas Media and we look forward to working with you in other ways. One of those is, of course, Pajamas TV. If you have any ideas in that regard, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Our best wishes in the new year and again our deepest gratitude for your participation in Pajamas Media.

  Sincerely,
  Roger L. Simon
  CEO, Pajamas Media

And not even Joe the Plumber can keep that turd from making its way down the drain. Ha! And again I say, ha!

I get the feeling PJM has finally shaken off all but its original core constituency of Pam Geller stalkers and guys who masturbate into cellophane bags filled with green plastic army men.

Prior to this election, there were occasional bursts of civil debate in the comments sections at their news portal, and a small resident cadre of waggish Lefties who enjoyed keeping the pot boiling. Lately, though, it’s become a dumping ground for John-Birch-Society-meets-Stormfront screeds, retro-McCarthyist conspiracy talk and the sort of halfwit, flag-fucking “new patriot” claptrap that’s been Beta-testing on the Birther sites.

No doubt this affects their business model and ad-revenue calculations, since they are pretty much reduced to cannibalizing the readership of Little Green Footballs and Ass-Master Quarterly...which yields a really hinky income/affinity/interest profile.

I mean, what is the “absolute” market for stars-and-stripes themed rubber-ball gags and “frontier-fringe” reinforced chamois boxer shorts? Probably less than Roger Simon’s annual budget for rakish journalist hats.

I followed the link from Gene Expression back to Protein Wisdom and noticed that this move puts Jeff Goldstein out of a job as of April 1.

Happy dance!

For a few years now I’ve wondered how entities PJM are funded.  I’ve had the same question about NRO.  Are we seeing the leaves fall out of the right-wing money tree?  I can only hope.

Malkin readers everywhere will now have to choose between supporting a pay site or cutting back on Furry porn.

Decisions…

Clearly the terrorists have won.

John Cole (the lone voice of sanity crying in the Dr. Denton’s Media wilderness) got sick of every one asking what was going to happen to BJ huh, huh, huh? and assured his faithful following he’s not going anywhere so I readily join in the gloating:

[Ahem] Nanny nanny boo boo, stick your head in doo-doo!

We thank you very much for participating during the formative years of Pajamas Media and we look forward to working with you in other ways. One of those is, of course, Pajamas TV. If you have any ideas in that regard, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Ideas in that regard? More like “Any ideas that will stop this turd from spiraling down the toilet and don’t expect to be paid if we use one, suckas!” I for one am NOT looking forward to Celebrity fReichtardette Jello Wrestling, hosted by John AssRocket.

and guys who masturbate into cellophane bags filled with green plastic army men.

I. Am. Crying.
