“Patty Duke Show” Cast Reunites to Make Me Contemplate Suicide

Thanks for reminding me that the howling maw of the grave is beckoning, you zany prankster twins, you!

But God Bless William Schallert, who—along with James Hong, David Opatoshu, Vito Scotti and a dozen or so reliable utility actors—populated the entirety of broadcast TV in the ‘60s and ‘70s.

Remember those people who used to wander around town squares screaming about the Illuminati and socialism? Now they’re hunched over library computers Googling “Social Security” every 20 seconds.

One of these sad souls popped up first in the Patty Duke thread linked above with a rambling screed about Social Security, the Federal Reserve, carbon taxes, etc.

He received a perfect response: “There’s a ghost in your closet too. Boo!” I bet the poor bastard is curled up in the fetal position in the Young Adults section right now.

Wow, I had no idea William Schallert was still alive.  Looks pretty good, considering.

Holy crap.

Also, RIP Daniel Schorr.

“But they’re corpses/ identical corpses all the way!”

I had no idea William Schallert was still alive.

He was the only one I recognized when I first saw this, Tom. It took me three viewings to “get” the Patty Duke thing, because I was just so blown away to see Schallert 50 fucking years later.

Count me in with those who had no clue that William Schallert was still alive. I’m so glad; I always liked him. I went to the IMDb and checked his history and damn if he hasn’t stayed busy for the past fifty years!

Good for you, William! And yay, Patty Duke, too.

Enquiring minds:

Does Cathy still adore a minuet?

Does Cathy still adore a minuet?

Our Cathy, she loves a Thatcher book,
Estate Tax cuts and Captain Hook.

While Patty reads Alinsky’s lies,
Inflates the budget to the skies—
What a Liberal schnook.

Still, they’re cousins,
Life-partnering cousins and you’ll find,
They mock the Bro’s, they hate The Ho’s,
They wear each other’s underclothes—

You can lose your mind,
When cousins are transgendered fetal stem-cell experiments gone horribly wrong who were raised in separate countries but then accidentally reintroduced via a poorly-moderated Eastern European online dating service just as both of them were beginning to express their spliced-alien-DNA instinctive need to bite off Richard’s head and lay their eggs in his chest.

[Updated for 2010 audiences, but still can’t sell the treatment, even to The CW.]

I dunno, Strange. Kinda derivative for you. ;)

Y’all are old!  :)

(I grew up on Hogan’s Heros and Gilligan’s Island.  I knew I was getting on in years when my music supplanted my mom’s music on the oldies station.)

The CW? Really, Strange?

Come on! That has “SyFy Original Movie” written all over it!

Any Dobie Gillis fans here? William Schallert played a teacher on the show. What a wonderful show! Still my favorite character: an incredibly young Tuesday Weld as the ultimate 50s alpha female in-training, Thalia Menninger.

@ Grace Nearing

I met Bob Denver when I was a Cub Scout and they were rolling out “Gilligan’s Island.” All we wanted to ask him was, “What happened to Maynard’s goatee?!?” He told us he knitted it into a sweater.

Also, too, Zelda Gilroy:
