Piss-poor Democrats

I used the phrase “piss-poor Democrats” to describe PUMAs on Ripley’s BlogTalkRadio show last week and WaPo’s Alec MacGillis has laid out evidence that it’s a fairly accurate description:

Democrats have been wringing their hands since yesterday about one seemingly daunting figure in new polls showing a tightening of the presidential race.

Obama, according to the polls, is still having trouble locking down the votes of Hillary Clinton’s primary-season supporters. An NBC/Wall Street Journal poll found that only about half of self-identifying Clinton supporters backed Obama, while a fifth are backing John McCain and fully a quarter remain undecided.

Some are interpreting this as evidence that Obama has a lingering problem with the Democratic base, and even speculating that he consequently might shock the world and pick Clinton as his running mate.

Lost in this analysis, though, is a crucial fact: many of Clinton’s primary-season supporters are not necessarily loyal Democratic presidential election voters.

Read it all.

Every time some douchebag like Lambert acts as if “the Democratic base” were interchangeable with “Clinton voters” it drives me up a fucking tree.  It’s all part of a months-long campaign to de-legitimize Obama’s victories (a campaign pushed by people like Taylor Marsh, who now look in horror at the results of their efforts), and every word of it was a fucking lie.  But it’s a zombie lie, and there’s no killing it now, whatever we do.  Argh.

I’ve been waiting for someone to break these numbers down.  Thanks Kevin for finding this.  It’s kind of like national polls (or even national popular vote totals)...made irrelevant by the electoral college system.  I refuse to worry about poll numbers until at least mid October.  Roar.

Was anyone aware that McCain suffered from PSTD.  I mean, I’m sure we all know it, but we don’t hear about it much.

Well, I’m doing my part to kill off the zombies.  I think I’ve hit them pretty hard with the PUMA conference and Bower/debt posts (with the help of Kos front-paging both of them). As long as we can keep gouging chunks out of their credibility, maybe the media and more Dems will start treating them with the same contempt that a lot of us do.

The Democratic Party is no longer relevant. We live in a post partisan era now. That’s what the preamble to the Democratic Platform says, and who are we to argue with it.

Lambert, did you rub one out while you wrote that?

Damn, I just checked and lambert never responded to me here.

Rachel Maddow just very patiently destroyed a PUMA on her radio show.

When the last zombie is dead, we move on to dusty old Republican senators.

Kevin, I think those stories ARE having an impact, although God knows they’re not receiving the kind of media play you’d expect from such humiliating “gotchas.” My take is that “Hillary hold-outs” meme is a useful bit of pot-stirring dramaturgy, even though many reporters are well aware that the demographics don’t support it, and the visible components like PUMA are Nimitz-class cranks on a par with Monty Python’s “Silly Party.”

I don’t expect the Convention to have a huge audience, by any stretch, but I’m pretty sure that a) the absence of a bloody chair-fight on the Convention floor and b) occasional on-camera sightings of Darragh’s rag-tag army of angry fishwives will tend to dispel whatever abstract glamor the argument may hold, at least for those watching.

America has a blind-date with PUMA next week…and I suspect it won’t last past the salad.

When the last zombie is dead

Guys, you can’t “kill” Zombies….they are already dead.  How many movies do Sam Rami and Bruce Campbell have to make???

lol. Now you are killing me StrangeAppar8us.

I’m very sorry I missed that.
