Project Mendacium

If stepping on one’s own pee-pee were an Olympic event, former rightwing darling, fake pimp, jail bird and failed screw canoe captain James O’Keefe would be a gold medalist. This time, O’Keefe’s “Project Veritas” bunglers posted video of themselves committing voter fraud.

As you know, voter fraud concerns are big in wingnut circles even though actual voter fraud is about as pressing a national issue as counterfeit Louis Vuitton fanny-packs. Of course, the voter fraud thing is a red herring: The actual aim is to disenfranchise lower income people and young folks, who have a disturbing tendency to vote for Democrats.

Anyhoo, now that O’Keefe has provided incontrovertible evidence of his confederates committing a crime, New Hampshire officials and the feds should do them the courtesy of treating this instance of actual voter fraud with the seriousness it deserves and clap ‘em in irons…

I wonder if Breitbart put him up to it?

If the rumors are true, even Breitbart believes O’Keefe is not a credible source, which is like being thought a crook by Bernie Madoff.

Well, Breitbart TV‘s puffing it for all it’s worth at the moment.

(This post got Memeorandumed, BTW - always gratifying to see the words “stepping on one’s own pee-pee” studding the usual wingnut drivel ...)

On election fraud etc., I usually refer to Brad Friedman, who’s on the case.

Wait, you mean my Louis Vuitton fanny pack might be counterfeit?

The best part is how he didn’t even manage to vote:

Gloria Pilotte, supervisor at the Ward 9 polling area, immediately became suspicious because she recognized the name as a man she knew who recently died.

It’s like walking into a bank with a toy gun in your pocket, pulling it out, saying “bam!”, running away, and claiming that shows we need metal detectors in all our banks.

So I’d say they accomplished exactly what they set out to do: show how easy it is to commit voter fraud. They just didn’t get the answer they were thinking they would.

The resemblance noted above is terrifying. As in the movie, it’s between a man… and a MONSTER!

A grieving New Hampshire widow said she was stunned to learn her beloved husband’s identity was used for a political gotcha — just 10 days after his death.

“That’s awful,” Rachel Groux said. “Why should they use his name? They shouldn’t use anybody’s name — alive or deceased.”

Some sort of dishonorable mention should be handed out to the Ferengi media that spread O’Keefe’s doctored BS as gospel truth in the first place.  The fact that they legitimized – no, REWARDED his smearing of legitimate organizations and persons (out of mortal terror at being considered anywhere to the left of Genghis Khan) in the first place has led directly to this.  There is no honor in them; liars, cowards, and weaklings all.

So I’d say they accomplished exactly what they set out to do: show how easy it is to commit voter fraud.

Well, it appears that you can scam a vote or two as long as you’re willing to face the courts as a result.

It’s telling that O’Keefe’s crew had to focus on people who’d very recently died to even attempt to pull off the scam, since it looks like NH is quite stringent in purging the rolls in such events.

As Kay at Balloon Juice observed, it’s pretty rough on the recently bereaved to have their dearly departed exploited in this way.

“But, your Honor, I wasn’t really trying to steal that diamond bracelet! I was just trying to show the store owner how easy it is for customers to shoplift!”

Even better: This masterstroke cost some presumably stupidly rich sucker a whole load of moolah:

An “extremely generous donor” gave $50,000 to James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas to fund their voter fraud stunt in New Hampshire on Tuesday, the conservative activist said in a email to supporters.

And yeah, he’s pimping for MOAR MONEY!!!!

On that above point:

A grieving New Hampshire widow said she was stunned to learn her beloved husband’s identity was used for a political gotcha — just 10 days after his death.

“That’s awful,” Rachel Groux said. “Why should they use his name? They shouldn’t use anybody’s name — alive or deceased.”

Exactly - that’s how “easy” it is to scam.

So O’Keefe got paid to do it, even though he doesn’t appear in the video. Looks like a conspiracy to violate election law.  Hell, I’d say there a good chance they’re a Corrupt Organization, capitalized for RICO.

O’Keefe figured that if the recently deceased were real republicans, they’d be OK with hurting their grieving spouses for The Great Cause.
