Quote of the Day: Steve M.

Steve of No More Mister Nice Blog on the Gillibrand pick:

Governor Paterson is a second-generation Democratic pol. He’s protecting the party from an enemy that used to be a lot stronger than it is.

Exactly.  Read it all.

Patterson selected Gillibrand to appease the New York Hillary supporters. They all wanted a woman in that seat and revenge for CK’s support of Obama. Look at the website the NOW chapter of NY, ans other east coast states and it will become clear that the NOW leadership clearly supported anyone that was not Caroline. Patterson is a stupid dumbfuck and probably selected another Clintonite who will then play petty politics as usual, just like Hillary

In what I am reading and hearing it does seem like the Clinton factor was strong in that it appears Gillibrand is who they wanted.  So in terms of keeping the seat in 2010 it could make some sense to pick someone who will have the Clinton machine behind them.  It’s hard to believe they would have gotten behind Kennedy after she dumped them in the primaries.

The PUMA’s can now revel in this historic victory off theirs. They unseated a Kennedy!!! They are relevant now. All the more reason for them to exist.

The more I find out about Patterson, the less I like.

I think my liberal bleeding heart gave him the benefit of the doubt owing to his handicap, but he seems more and more to just be some hack.

Another Blue Dog?  Great?  Another republican member of the House (most likely)?  Fantastic.

It appears that Clinton and Schumer had the long knives out for Kennedy from the beginning - Clinton for obvious reasons and Schumer because he probably didn’t dig the idea of playing second fiddle to Kennedy in the influence department.

So now NY gets a Blue Dog Dem and a drama worthy of the Bard himself in ‘10. Well done, folks.

As a candidate for Senate or Governor in NY I’d much rather have the Kennedy and Obama machines behind me in NY than the Clinton machine.  As a citizen of NY I’d be much happier with a senator who has a solid relationship with Obama than the Clintons.  The latter seems pretty much irrelevant to me.

One piece of good news, it seems Gillibrand’s positions may already be evolving:

(I tried to post link to a NY Daily News story about Gillibrand and gay marriage here but apparently that’s not allowed so google “Gillibrand’s Gay Marriage Evolution” Elizabeth Benjamin, if you want to read it.)

Testing link.

OK, well that link worked but when I tried the one to the NY Daily News story I also got a weird message.  Maybe because “Gay” in the link?  Need to check into it.

Marin, send me the link when you get a chance.  The blacklist is set up to keep spammers from dropping links in.  Could have been a wildcard in there.

Ah, I see.  Found the Daily News link and, yeah, it’s blacklisted.  Let me see why.

Fixed it.  Here’s the Daily News link.

That’s wonderful, but her stances on gun control, immigration and gay rights were pretty abhorrent when she was campaigning.  She may be pulling back on the anti-gay stuff, but I want to see where she goes on the other two issues.

I totally get the need for blue dog senators in some borderline or red states, but I still don’t get how this pick is a good thing for NY state or the senate at large.

Actually, the pumas didn’t succeed at anything.  They did a prowl in support of Carolyn Maloney.  Poor Representative Maloney… I don’t know what she did to deserve their endorsement of death.

SHOUT 2 mie PUMA frendz. WE CAN DOO THIS. FIGHT these people.
