RIP Alex Chilton

Rather than post a couple of music videos or a link to an obit, I’ll direct you to Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) who paid his respects on the House floor this morning. RIP Alex and condolences to his wife and son. [via Pareene]

“Children by the million / Sing for Alex Chilton / When he comes ’round / They sing, ‘I’m in love / What’s that song? / I’m in love with that song.’”

Wow, thanks for linking to that tribute.

(I’m really proud to have donated toward Steve Cohen’s re-election.  He’s a mensch.)

I heard about this last night as I was nodding off, and I was hoping I heard it wrong.

Fare forward, Alex.

Saw him play at Mountain Stage in 1992,their website has one of his songs streaming from that show, plus a short tribute to Chilton..
Didn’t realize until now that he was only 16(!) when he recorded ‘The Letter’.

I forgot that he recorded The Cramps as well—maybe he and Lux are tearing it up right now.
