RIP Tim Russert

Tim Russert

Meet the Press’ Tim Russert dead at 58. RIP. Watching him on Sunday mornings was a weekly ritual and he’ll be missed.  Condolences to his wife Maureen, his son Luke and his father Big Russ, who will be having an especially difficult Father’s Day this year.

MORE: Wonk pays her respects to “big guy.” Also, this remembrance from Chuck Todd, who was mentored by Russert, is just heart-breaking [via TPM].

Terrible news…hopefully this will put some well needed perspective and since of purpose to others that do the news to be a bit more harder hitting…as life, and the ability to cover it clearly can be snatched from any of us at a moment’s notice.  He was better than the tweety’s and ilk of nothingness.

He will be missed.

Nicely put, Manamongst.

And a heads up to anyone else who comments here.  One thing I have no patience for is people dancing on other people’s graves. If you feel the need to go negative on Russert, please fuck off.

Thanks.

Digby’s blog is out of control with some of the comments there. I can’t believe she’s not stepping in or deleting some of them.  Does she really hate the media and/or Russert that much? She needs to take a long break from blogging if she does. He may have made some mistakes (name one journalist who hasn’t), but he always struck me as an affable guy and a pretty decent interviewer.

Kev, I saw your comment over at Digby’s and agree it’s astonishing how cruel people can be. Russert had weaknesses, just as we all do, but the man didn’t have a malicious bone in his body. Thanks for putting up this post.

Tim Russert, RIP.

Crushed and saddened by Big Tim’s death. Didn’t always agree with him, but respected him deeply.
Had the unfortunate urge to see what they were saying at hills44, shouldn’t have done it. Now I’m FUCKING PISSED OFF as well as being crushed and saddened.

We’ll miss you Big Tim.
Condolences to wife Moreen and son Luke and Pop’s Big Russ, my thoughts are with you.

Roger and poputonian, yeah, the comments at Digby’s blog are really, really bad and they’ve gotten worse since I left my comment.  I lost a lot of respect for her today.  She did nothing about the vulgar comments—a simple condemnation would have been swell—and then followed it up with a post snidely noting that “the media is busy eulogizing one of the their own.” Ya know, one of the biggest media figures of our time dies out of the blue at a relatively young age and Digby thinks it’s okay to chide them for eulogizing him right after he fucking died?  Seriously, WTF?

Okay, I’ll shut up.  I just never expected Hullabaloo to be as big of a fever swamp as HillaryIs44.

Fortunately, some of the commenters over at Hullabaloo are calling out the assholes.

As for Russert’s passing, I see him as a victim of this culture, not the cause of it. No need for our side to become fire-breathing idiots about it.

Yeah, I saw that, pop.  I just think several of those comments warranted deletion.  I know I deleted a several comments on Catch.com about Reagan when he passed away and, lord knows, that guy deserved a hell of a lot more liberal rage than Russert ever did. I just don’t get that level of anger directed at a guy who ran a Sunday morning talk show.

Even Taylor Marsh, to her credit, is deleting comments and trying to maintain order.

I’m with you on that. Jesus, could any of us accomplish the occupational perfection some expected of Russert? I doubt it.

could any of us accomplish the occupational perfection some expected of Russert?

When I worked at that sewage treatment plant back in my college days I was flawless at shoveling processed human excrement.

I was flawless at shoveling processed human excrement

We should have known!

:-)

It’s going to be very strange to go through an election without Russert.
