“Runnin’ With the Devil”: Van Halen’s David Lee Roth in Isolation

I never much cared for Van Halen, even during the David Lee Roth years. After listening to this isolated vocal track from “Runnin’ With the Devil”, I’m confident that I made a great choice rejecting and denouncing this band from the get-go.

If you isolate most vocal tracks they usually sound funny. The amazing thing here is how WELL it stands on it’s own.

"If you isolate most vocal tracks they usually sound funny.”

On crap music like Van Halen, sure, I’d agree.  With someone like Don Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart—I’ll give you time to look it up), nope, sorry.

“Wow.. you’re a total dumb ass.”

At least I’m not a David Lee Roth fan.

All we need is just a little patience.

D.L.R. is a bear.  grrrrrrOWWWWLL!

He doesn’t actually sound too bad considering the type of song.  I bet if you isolated 90% of rock singers vocals they’d sound just as bad or worse. Have you ever heard Celine Dion’s vocals isolated?  I shiver.
