Runoff Canceled—Karzai Wins!

This can’t be good.

Juan Cole is not optimistic here and here.

Whether or not backing Karzai ever made sense as an improvised strategic make-do, you have to admit the US has never had a gift for craftily installing credible puppet governments. And anyone who doesn’t see this as a toxic legacy of the Bush Administration can eat me. It’s not technically “dithering” when you’re weighing life-and-death commitments to a war no one has ever “won,” in a country that hates your ass and thinks “democracy” is a euphemism for green robes and Hellfire missiles.

It’s hard to see how staying in Afghanistan makes sense. I hope Obama doesn’t go down that rabbit hole, but I am afeared.

Interesting that Madame Secretary is pushing the legitimacy of Karzai’s government in the eyes of a sceptical world, as part of her campaign to increase U.S. involvement. I’m glad Biden is pushing back against her, and if anything makes me glad she didn’t win the nomination, it’s this, because we know where we’d be right now.

Of course, if Obama doesn’t send in all 40,000 troops, he’s a Muslin.

btw, so THAT’s who Karzai reminds me of! Does that make Hillary Dorothy? Then Osama Bin Laden must be the Wicked Witch, musn’t he?

I purpled my fingers for this?

Once again, Strange, you’ve hit it out of the ballpark!

How the fuck do you come up with this stuff????
