Ta, Kevin - I’m definitely going to be putting Contra on pre-order, having become a bit obsessive about the first album.

Do you like the Dirty Projectors at all?

Love them.  Bitte Orca is one of my favorite albums of the year and they are tremendous live. I actually discovered them a few years ago when they opened for a local band I like a lot (O’Death) in NYC. They were still fairly unknown then and I knew nothing about them. They blew me away.

I’m very impressed with the Projectors, too, although I’m unlikely to see them live, what with being on the wrong side of the Atlantic.

From what I’ve heard so far from Contra, it seems more polished than the first album, although it seems like they’ve held onto the same sound.

I may be wrong about this, but I think the first album was essentially a demo that got a lot of buzz and was rushed for release. I actually have the demo somewhere but haven’t compared it to the official release.

I’m surprised the Projectors aren’t playing overseas yet.  Seems like they’d do pretty well across the pond.

BTW, I posted a live video from their outdoor show I saw this summer. “Stillness” is such a great song.

Wouldn’t be the first time; the official story is that it was recorded in various settings over a couple of years, so I can buy that it’s a demo that been lightly edited.

They may well have played in London or somewhere, but I don’t get a lot of chances to get down there. And I’ve only recently become interested in them, too, so they may not have been on my radar.
