Shhhh! I think it’s trying to communicate with us!

Palin retweeted a twit from gun-fondling wingnut lesbian Tammy Bruce that seems vaguely pro-gay—or at least hostile to people who are obsessively anti-gay (like Palin’s former running mate).

The Freepers are confused. So is Gawker. Conservatives4Palin, which is Palin’s quasi-official voice on the blogosphere, is silent on the issue thus far.

If Palin really is expressing a pro-gay sentiment, however feebly, well, that’s sort of brave. Because I suspect her fan base would chart out something like this:

Will the Oracle of the Arctic address it further? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

I imagine she’s unaware that Bruce is a lesbian and is expressing her support for the idea of hunting for gays under the beds of the “right” wing rivals who’ve been dissing her (or who she imagines are or will be dissing her).

I’m with Donna.  Palin saw “homos” and “look under their bed.”

Betty, hatred being conveniently fungible, it seems Mooslins are the new Ghey. Much less possibility for the embarrassment of discovering a prayer mat secreted under a Conservative’s bed.

According to Bruce, Palin is a “friend to the [gay] community. A “friend” who wants to amend the Constitution to prevent her “friends” from marrying. A “friend” who thinks her “friends’” spouses should be denied benefits, etc. But a “friend,” somehow, nonetheless.

Donna/Mike J are close, but I think Palin saw “their” as referring back to “homos.” Not that you’d find Muslins under gays’ beds.

My brain hurts.

“Being Sarah Palin” would be an awesome sequel.

I second Dave S. But she could well refudiate herself later.

Bruce (crazy name, crazy gal) is all about the Palin RT at the moment (Palin having moved on to trying to stir it in other directions):

I think @SarahPalinUSA RT my tweet is her first comment on DADT, treatment of gays & attempts to marginalize us—thank you Governor

Yes, how brave of Palin to wait till the repeal’s passed before expressing a public opinion, however oblique, especially one that’s diametrically opposed to her ex-running mate’s.

And Bruce wastes no opportunity to rewrite reality:

@bicyclesmAKdown The point is, Big Thinker, that military wanted to keep DADT, while some were making ‘rectal exam’ skits w sailors in drag

Way to go. Ignore that pesky commission and those military polls and keep it topical.

chrisjefferson @HeyTammyBruce @dragondani73 Tammy, the “#Palin hates gays” meme was started by the #HRC and #OFA, partly to shake down gay money in 2008.

Shorter: All UR ghey money are ours now.

Oh, and Bent Alaska will be mystified where this #HRC and #OFA “Palin is less than enthusiastic about gay rights” meme started.

This is classic buffoonery from Tammy:

So, @SarahPalinUSA RT’s something that stands w gays re DADT and is supportive in general, what r the odds the LSM will try to ignore?

Yeah, you’d think the lamestream media would report about something extremely newsworthy like Sarah Palin retweeting something from legendary radio podcast host Tammy Bruce, but, no, instead they’ll continue to be lame.

The Freepers are confuzzled

duh. read, Tom.

Actually, I think she just outed John McCain.

Okay, I’ll take a stab at a translation.  I think she’s packin’ a whole lot of insinuations here.  Why not?  It totally fits her social MO.

1.  All the cool kids know hating on homos is now uncool.
2.  People still hating on homos are uncool.
3.  Especially people who ARE homo and still hating on homos.  *HINT, HINT!*
4.  Isn’t Lindsey Graham a homo?  Isn’t he, like, BFFs with that creepy old uncool guy who screwed up my election to prez of these great United States?

FTW:  This is sufficiently muddy to keep “conservatives4palin” from being able to make sense of it, so they’ll end up just ignoring it, and she’ll get credit from the dozens of right-wing gays who are desperately looking for a reason to believe Big Daddy GOP is finally going to accept them, for sure, any day now.

What. The. Fuck.  You just broke my head.

Sarah Palin doesn’t hate the Beatles.  She’s just hates John, Paul and George and all their music and everything they stood for.

Does Politico have a dedicated “reporter” assigned to follow LaPalin’s twits/facebook pronouncements?

@Nellcote:

I would be willing to bet a LOT of money that they do.  And not just Politico—add WaPo, CNN, MSNBC, USA Today, Slate, Salon, Time, Newsweek, etc.

They’re like the Fox entertainment division—they know we’re (guiltily) entertained by lowbrow antics.  They’re just answering the demand.

The C of P’s Ian Lazaran drew the short straw and was tasked to cobble together the Palinite non-stance on teh ghey:

Apparently, her re-tweet of a Tammy Bruce tweet is making news. What a lot of people are missing is that it’s possible to share the sentiment that Tammy expressed in her tweet and still oppose repeal of DADT and other issues. I don’t know Governor Palin’s opinion on the issue. However, I think it’s a stretch to claim that she is a proponent of repealing DADT based on one re-tweet.

I don’t believe Tammy was actually criticizing people who genuinely oppose repeal of DADT. After all, the most visible and vigorous opponent of repealing DADT was John McCain, someone who no one will mistake as a fanatic. The people Bruce is mocking are those on the right and the left who spend every waking hour of their day thinking about homosexuality. In the same way that someone is not necessarily anti-gay if he or she opposes repeal of DADT and civil unions, someone isn’t necessarily endorsing homosexuality if he or she supports repeal of DADT and civil unions.

In other words, I don’t believe Governor Palin was making any type of policy statement with her re-tweet. She may have just been endorsing Tammy’s mockery of people who have skewed priorities. I generally agree with Ben Smith’s point of view on Palin’s re-tweet in the sense that the Governor really does represent the median Republican. In any event, here’s Tammy’s opinion.

And if you think that‘s tortuous, you haven’t seen the comments.

Oh this little gem from the comments:

i guess its good that tammy bruce supports palin now but i dont trust anybody’s intelligence who was in the tank for broom hilda clinton. i mean, how far apart on the spectrum are are s. palin and broom hilda? light years. and she just goes from one to the other? mabey she ‘saw the light” but c’mon

PUMAs know thyselves.

In the same way that someone is not necessarily anti-gay if he or she opposes repeal of DADT and civil unions, someone isn’t necessarily endorsing homosexuality if he or she supports repeal of DADT and civil unions.

In the same way someone is not necessarily a racist just because he or she opposes miscegenation. Kee-rist. Glad you cleared that up, Ian.

@ Litlebritdifrnt: Was Bruce ever a Hillaryite? I thought her entire shtick (such as it is) was built around being a conservative lesbian.

The Freepers are still thrashing around, and one has perfected the epistemic treble-backflip with spreadeagle dismount:

To: Bigtigermike
This quote is taken out of context, twisting the meaning.

Tammy Bruce was in the middle of a tweet conversation about people attacking Palin, and Tammy said:
“But this hypocrisy is just truly too much. Enuf already—[the hypocritical Homos’ position is] the more someone complains about the homos the more we should look under their bed”

And if you think that‘s tortuous, you haven’t seen the comments.

You can almost smell the smoke pouring out of his ears.
